Breast feeding pillows

My DC2 is due any day now (I’m 40+5) and my attention is turning to what I do once it’s actually here Grin

I had a pretty good time breast feeding with DC1 so hope to do so again, but after getting a really sore back and shoulders last time, I might actually treat myself to a proper pillow

Can anyone recommend what pillow they liked, or also let me know if there’s one you hated too!!

Is it worth spending £60 + on a fancy one?

I liked my Boppy pillow.

Gerdticker · 03/11/2020 18:40

Thanks @AegonT they do look good - not too expensive and simple!

I bought one in Asda for £5 & a year and a half on I'm still getting use out of it as a little changing pillow at bedtime.

I also recommend a Boppy pillow. Served us well until DD weaned just shy of her 2nd birthday and planning on using it with her sibling due next year

The cover is super easy to get on/off for washing too which is always a plus

Thank you @lemorella and @Thegirlhasnoname

Another vote for boppy

Another vote for the boppy, I’m so attached to mine, I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it!

After trying about 3 with my last baby I totally recommend 'My Brest friend'. Best pillow ever, so supportive & comfy for baby! Got mine off eBay (gave it a thorough clean Grin)

Gerdticker · 04/11/2020 23:20

Oo ok thanks @ramen7

May I ask - what other ones did you try, and why they didn’t work so well for you?

I’ve been looking at a bbhugme, and I like the fact that you can tie it around your waist - I guess the my brest friend is similar in that way?

Another vote for My Brest Friend pillow. I was really on a fence whether to get it or not, but decided to go for it pretty much shortly after DS was born. It's awesome, highly recommend.

Pillows are great if they work for you alternatively just recline a little bit and gravity will hold baby against you. Pillows are often the culprits in sore nipple incidents. It can be hard to get a good latch when you use one. Changing your position can be the secret to being comfy anywhere.

A friend lent me their “Boppy” pillow for my first baby and I didn’t get on with it at all. By the time I had my second child, my back ache was worse, and I decided to give a breastfeeding pillow another go. I bought the “LEN” pillow from IKEA and it was brilliant! Only £17 and you can buy extra covers for £3.50.

Thank you @qualityfeet Smile yes you’re right, I did really well without one last time, but I did start to get a sore back and neck - I think because I’ve got small boobs I have to hold baby quite high, so need tons of pillows and never bothered! I’m determined to get myself set up better this time and develop good habits

I also have SPD so have to sit upright with knees below hips... leaning back hurts a lot which has ruled out many of the feedi chairs for me. I have to be upright and forward on my seat bones and stay totally straight, it’s a complete faff Grin

@Gerdticker dream genii and one from mamas &papas from what I can remember! I also have the IKEA one which is great for just moving around the house w me but I keep the 'friend ' in bed for night feeds where my back hurts the most. I never needed to clip it round my waist as it just keeps its position. Know they're expensive so look for a second hand one and buy some dettol spray to air out before baby!
