Perfect Prep feed size amounts

Hi very well could be being dense but I'm testing my perfect prep and on the box of my formula it says '2 scoops to 2 oz 90' for 0-2 weeks. It also has '3 scoops to 3 Oz 90' for 3-4 weeks.

But the smallest amount the prep makes is 4 Oz.

I've made formula before but used a kettle so this is new to me.

Do I just make 4oz bottles all the time with three scoops from newborn?

No you put 4 scoops for 4oz.
For each oz you need 1 scoop
If you add too much water your baby will not get the right nutrition

It’s annoying but the smallest bottle the machine makes is a 4oz and as pp said it is one scoop per oz.
Just make 4oz bottles for now and dispose of whatever doesn’t get used :)

ChampooPapi · 03/11/2020 12:10

@dementedpixie yes sorry I read the box wrong in my head fogg 🤦 But the prep machine itself makes minimal 4 Oz and I will only need to make 2 oz to begin with, do I just pour the rest away?

I haven't made formula for a couple of years so I was just going by the box to be sure, but managed to totally cock that up even by reading the amounts wrong

Thanks @User346514823633 , I had a complete brain malfunction with those amounts I read out the Oz and ml conversion as one thing. Ok great, I will just make 4 in Oz bottles, 4 scoops each time. I'm also having twins so could pour half into another bottle to make two feeds? But don't want to compromise the sanitary sterilised aspect

Babies don't always follow the recommended intake and you may find little ones is drinking 4 ounces before the box suggests. You can either make up the 4 ounces and just get rid of anything not drunk or make smaller bottles using the kettle and move onto the tommee tippee once LO is drinking a bit more.

NannyR · 03/11/2020 12:36

If you're having twins I would just pour half the 4oz bottle into another sterilised bottle.
Or, you could make up 2oz bottles with kettle for the first week or two. 2oz of formula will cool to a drinkable temperature in no time if you hold the bottle under running water.

TrashKitten10 · 03/11/2020 12:43

As long as everything is sterilised and the milk is made up correctly there would be no issue in then splitting the milk into two bottles. With twins on the way you're going to have enough expense without throwing out double lots of milk that hasn't been drunk :)

dementedpixie · 03/11/2020 12:46

Yes you could make up the feed in one bottle and then split them into 2 as long as both are sterilised

WankPuffins · 03/11/2020 14:40

You just make up 4oz and throw away what they don’t need.

(It does get annoying if like me, you have an 11 week old who still doesn’t even drink 4oz).

WankPuffins · 03/11/2020 14:41

I make e 4oz as I live in hope.

Algebraicyourleg · 03/11/2020 15:04

We did, and still do(if needed), exactly that. If they were taking 2oz each then I made a 4oz and split in between two bottles. My twin girls are 9months now and taking 6oz so have to do two separate bottles now; when they were taking 5oz each I did a 10 and split, which I still do if they are having a day when they don’t feel like eating much.

Good luck! Twins are tiring but an amazing blessing (like all babies!)

Thank you all you fantastic women 🙌 you have made my final evening before having these twins tomorrow feel the most relaxed it can be with your advise and reassurece.

It's a small thing I know, and of course can just use the kettle like i have in the old days but I'm so grateful for all.yoir responses. And you have twins @Algebraicyourleg 🥰 so I will definitely be doing what you suggest. Split the bottles initially, I'm going to attempt to pump and try mixed feeding and although I breast fed my other two girls I have a feeling it may not work out like that for twins! I think it will prominently be formula, if not exclusively.

Thank you to everyone who has replied ☺️
