Beech baby at 32 weeks

I’ve just had a scan this morning and found that my baby is breech. I’m booked for a scan in 3 weeks to see if he moves. If not they’ve said I can be offered an ECV, which I’m not sure I want. I’m wondering what everyone’s experiences of an ECV are? And also whether there have been many babies have moved from the breech position after 32 weeks? I also read that if you have strong stomach muscles babies are less likely to move and mine are quite strong. Not sure if that’s relevant or even true, but would very much like to hear other peoples experiences of this and gain some advice. Thank you.

DC1 stayed in breech. I didn’t have ECV due a anterior placenta.
DC2 moved around 34 weeks.
DC4 was all over the place. I had fortnightly scans that were fairly consistently transverse, then breech, then cephalic, then oblique, then back to transverse.

DC4 was still moving around right up until the morning I had a c section. There is no guarantee a ECV will move the baby and keep them head down.

Ds turned somersaults until week 37. Midwife told me I needed a section because he was breech at 33 weeks and tried to book me in.

I avoided her for a couple of weeks, (she was very strident Wink) and he was born naturally and head first at 40+5

Mine was the same, I’m waiting to find out if they’ve moved in 2 weeks time. I suspect they have, because I’m now feeling kicks under my ribs which I didn’t before.

Because my baby is large (GD) I’ve been told they won’t attempt an ecv if they’re still in breech - it will just be a c-section for me. I’m really hoping to avoid a section, so fingers crossed they have moved down!

My breech baby turned head down 3 days before my elcs, still had an elcs due to a previous section, she weighed in at 10.9lbs.

Mine is currently a transverse baby, I'm 34 weeks. She was transverse breech at my 32 week scan, and according to the midwife she has flipped sides from head under left ribs to head under right ribs. I can't tell which way up she is at any point. I had a very quick scan last Tues night (reduced movement) and they said she was head down. I've decided (after a discussion with my oh) to decline an ecv if its offered. I have too much fluid which means she probably won't stay put if turned anyway. I'm going to ask for an induction/controlled rupture of water if she's head down or just go for the section if she's still flipping like a gymnast. I can't comment on the stomach muscles, as I was told since she's my 4th and I have no stomach muscle left (lol!) She has more space to.keep moving about.

I had an ECV and it didn't work, but would have done if I hadn't laughed so hard in the first attempt (due to it feeling ticklish which is apparently far from normal) which resulted in LO getting their butt stuck in my pelvis. I ended up declining another ECV and chose a c-section but my hospital had a breech team who walked me through my options.

DC1 was breech, defected at 32 weeks. I tried ECV twice, I wouldn't say it was painful but rather very uncomfortable. I tried mozsom burning, various exercises and had osteo to try to get her to move. I tried a breech birth but for unconnected reasons ended up with an EMC.

DC2 was breach at 32 weeks but had moved by 36, tried a VBAC and ended up with an EMC.

DC3 was an elective. Calm and lovely.

So in short, they can move around. Caesareans are actually fine (I was desperate to avoid) and in hindsight I wouldn't try ECV.

AuntLucy · 03/11/2020 07:27

I had an ECV at 38 weeks with my first. It was successful, but extremely painful (a much more violent and upsetting experience than I had been led to believe - and this was at Oxford Radcliffe who are supposedly excellent at these!) and the baby was distressed afterwards.
I did go on to deliver vaginally forceps were needed and it was all a bit of a car crash. Second baby was breech also and I had a c-section, which was an infinitely better experience. I am pregnant with the third now, and if she's breech I will refuse ECV

Glendaruel · 03/11/2020 07:54

My baby was breach at 32, right before 36 week scan she shifted around. Midwife said that if she was still breach at birth it would depend on who was on duty having the experience to deliver a breach baby and may mean a c section.

GoodCow · 03/11/2020 08:00

My baby was breach from 32 weeks and despite my attempts to move him (frozen peas on his head, yoga poses, pelvic tilts) he stubbornly refused to shift. Born by ELCS, wasn't even offered to try to shift him around but I wouldn't have done it as I've heard it's really uncomfortable plus they can swivel back around.

Breach babies should get a hip scan before they are 6 weeks old as the breach position can cause hip dysplasia in some, so make sure you speak to a DR/midwife before you're discharged

Best of luck with your new cuddle buddy!

Thank you girls for all your comments and advice. I don’t think I’ll choose to go for an ECV if it comes to that and he hasn’t turned in the next few weeks. This is my 3rd baby and, with having natural births previously, I was a bit apprehensive about possibly having a c section. Though if it’s the best option I will go with it. I’ve also just realised I put “Beech” on this post instead of “Breech”..thank you all for not pointing it out!lol
