Just found out I'm pregnant with my 3rd And I'm slightly over weight and the thought of carrying a baby on top of how much im weighing now gives me nightmares.

I would like to drop maybe a stone and a half before Christmas. Is this safe to do so?

I’ve a BMI of 32 and was advised by my midwife not to lose weight, but to try and maintain my weight throughout my pregnancy - so would effectively be losing it in the end.

I’m the same. Trying really hard not to pile the pounds on. I was 1/1.5 stone overweight when I fell pregnant with my third.

I’m 17 weeks and have only put on 4lbs which I don’t think is dreadful.

I lost weight during pregnancy and no one told me off for it, so if you've got some a little to lose then as long as you're slow and careful, why not. I'd go for portion control, no junk and exercise rather than restricting calories.

You can do slimming world whilst pregnant with the support of your midwife. I was 1 stone lighter the day after my dd was born than when I got pregnant.
But I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself also.

I wasn’t encouraged to lose weight but advised not to gain in my last pregnancy. I ended up losing 1.5 stones, following a lower carb diet (I was diagnosed with GD at 20 weeks) and swimming, and doing gentle spinning. I felt great throughout and it was lovely being lighter post birth. Don’t put any pressure on yourself though, eat well, stay active look after yourself.

I get so annoyed with the pregnancy books saying not to diet- to eat normally and healthily, but not to put on weight. If eating "normally" didn't make me put on weight then I wouldn't be overweight!

To be fair I do think that giving up wine and really trying to pack the good stuff in/ eating more mindfully will be good for me perhaps I'll lose a few lb.

I think 1 and a half stone by Christmas is too much to aim for whilst pregnant - you would need to have quite a significant calorie deficit each day to get there.

I think I lost weight too, I’m sure it’s ok but definitely focus on eating healthy first and foremost. Don’t cut out any food groups, and as suggested above regular walks and exercise is probably the beat approach.

I always lost weight in pregnancy. If you’re eating has resulted in being significantly overweight, then not eating as much is a good idea. If you’re already skinny, you wouldn’t want to restrict yourself further in pregnancy.

I eat quite a lot at the moment snacking on crap so would drop to maybe 1400 -1500calories and just walk a little bit more. When I diet I normally loose a good 9 pound in the first week so 1.5 stone doesn't seem unrealistic.

Just switch to healthier choices and stay active, don’t try to lose weight as such but you’ll likely find you will naturally anyway. I was slightly overweight when I got pregnant, I’m almost 28 weeks and haven’t put anything on so far. I was worried that baby wasn’t growing (even though bump is huge) but baby’s bang on 50th centile

Oneandabean · 01/11/2020 20:06

Also remember that it’s hard to judge weight loss in pregnancy as there’s so much weight spread over your body. Baby, placenta, waters, breasts, extra water and blood in your body. So aiming for 1.5 stone might not be a good idea
