Hip pain at night

Hi, does anyone have any tips for reducing hip pain during sleep?! I always slept on my back pre pregnancy so it’s been hard getting used to sleeping on my side, so I have one of those massive pregnancy pillows to help and always put it between my knees but I still wake up in the middle of the night with unbearable hip pain! It’s got to a point where it’s every night now and I can’t sleep in because I’m in so much pain.

Someone please help!!

@Sleed
Watch exercise YouTube videos on Pelvic Girdle Pain.
Helped me after a week or so with the aches. X

Sorry OP no advice just empathy- I’m in so much pain, so I constantly have to walk around the house at nighttime release some of the pressure

This was the start of pelvic girdle pain for me. Try placing a folded duvet underneath you when in bed. Try to keep your hips aligned getting in and out of bed, the car etc.

Most importantly find an physio experienced in pregnancy. Hopefully it won’t get worse than this. All the best.

Ive just started getting this recently, i now sleep with a pillow under my hip which kind of covers my bump as well which is good, and my pregnancy pillow in between my legs. Still can be sore some nights but nowhere near as bad!

Mycrazylife85 · 01/11/2020 09:38

There are lots of old threads I've read all regarding this. I see a few a week. For me, yes. All of this. But I self referred to the physio, stretch as much as possible during the day, have a pregnancy pillow, do stretches when I get up in the night (every hour-2) and have a few extra pillows. One under my bump and another behind my back so I can lean slightly on this pillow and take the weight off my hips. I also have an extra for between my legs. It's much improved. My back and spine pain during the day haven't but small mercies...

Oh and get a support belt for the day. Lovely stuff!

Can I ask when your hip pain started? I’m nearly 19 weeks and woke up with horrible hip/lower back ache this morning! X

FireflyGirl · 01/11/2020 11:32

I had this as part of my PGP.

On top of the other recommendations above, I bought a memory foam mattress topper, which really helped.

My pain settled within a couple of days of having DD.

@Grace2296 I’m 14+2 and have had bad hip/pelvic pain for a week now. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I had spd during my second pregnancy too

Hi everyone

Thanks so much for the advice! I wasn't sure whether it was just a regular pregnancy thing and I was just being a wimp! I'm going to give my midwife a call and get her to refer me to a physio (I'd find one myself but I've just moved to this area a week ago so I don't know anywhere yet!)

@Grace2296 I'm only just 21 weeks and it's been happening for the past few weeks so I reckon it started around 18/19 weeks

You can self refer to NHS physio in most areas, just go onto the website of you local NHS Trust. It's not usually something the midwife will deal with, call GP if you get no luck with self referral.

Mycrazylife85 · 02/11/2020 17:02

@Sanch1 is correct. You self refer. The midwife won't do it for you. Go on the website of your local trust.
