Factor V Leiden High Risk Pregnancy

Hi all,

I am 27 weeks pregnant and I have Factor V Leiden blood clotting disorder.
I have been on aspirin since 12 weeks and I am due to start injecting blood thinners at 28 weeks.

Firstly, any tips on injecting? I’ve been on them before for a suspected PE. I injected into my tummy and my bruises were horrendous and so painful. I am thinking about injecting in my thighs- has anyone done this and would they say it’s better than tummy? Any other tips?

Also, It was mentioned to me at my booking in appointment that I would have a C-Section.
Since then nothing has really been mentioned about it? I do want a C section as my consultant said they would be able to monitor my bloods etc... has anyone with Factor V had a c section? Or did they suggest natural?

Thanks! 🥰

Hi, Firstly congratulations on your pregnancy 😊 .. I have factor V and prothrombin mutation. Its 20 years since I was pregnant but was told at that time not to inject into tummy. So I injected into thighs and was a bumpy, bruised mess....however there is good news. I was recently bed bound for a few weeks so had to inject again. My nurse friend told me absolutely not to touch/rub better, the injection sites immediately after. It really worked! Wish someone would have told me 20 years ago. No bruising, no bumps, no soreness at all. Hope that works for you. Sorry I don’t have advice on the c section though.

I've injected full way through 2vpregnancies and 6 weeks after c sections. I found doing it on you sides best. Grab a fatty bit tightly then inject slowly. Alternate sides each day so definitely getting different spot as it hurts if u do same spot 2 days in a row! Do it first thing in the morning when u get up, u found it less sore then than if I waited till later in the day, no time to think about it! Mind over matter! U get used to it after the first couple and then its no big deal.

Planned c sections great too. More reassurance everything is being monitored.
