Not a HCA but a newly qualified nurse in A&E Smile I'm 11 weeks pregnant currently, it's tiring but it's the nausea that I'm struggling with. I'm not always able to eat on my designated break times due to feeling sick so I keep having to break off to eat some crisps or a smoothie at random times. I've made people aware so they're more than happy for me to nip off and get a quick drink or anything I need. Where do you work and how are you coping? Smile

I'm a hca and I told my place of work early on as we have covid 19 in the building.
I'm now shielded from the residents in isolation. Also the work load was too much on certain teams and I honestly couldn't cope with it because I've been so tired. They put me on the easy teams which I'm great full for!
How are you coping?! I know it's so hard. Our job is hard enough! Being pregnant makes it near enough impossible lol

Hi @Sinead543 I'm a HCA and currently 31 weeks with twins.. I'll be honest I don't know if I can help much at all as I haven't worked since May as I have an underlying health condition that put me at really high risk with regards to covid anyway. I hate that I'm not working but with how I feel just trying to move around the house I'm not sure how I would cope at all if I was still working if I'm honest!! Hope your staying safe x

Hi!

I work in a district nursing team and I’m currently 5weeks+5. I’ve not yet told my manager I want to wait a few more weeks but I’m conscious that I won’t be able to do all the heavy visits for much longer
In regards to covid I have already been risk assessed so don’t really go to those patients so that’s a relief

I’m a hca in a nursing home and 22 weeks, the days are getting harder and more uncomfortable! It’s the bending down to pick up stuff or put shoes/socks/trousers on that struggling with, I work 12hr shifts with 1hr break which is split into 3 breaks(15mins,30mins,15mins) so I feel like I’m constantly on my feet, i find myself going home with my stomach aching and worrying about if I’ve over done it that day, I’ve been told I’ve got to come off work from 28 weeks but with things changing all the time I don’t know if that plan will stick

Also I’m only 5ft with quite a big bump considering this is my first so trying to do bed bound patients is proving to be difficult as bump is getting in the way and I’m struggling to reach over the bed LOL

Icu nurse here. Struggling big time. Ward is pretty intense to can’t nip off for extra breaks :( and the 13 hours shift are killing me. I find myself in bed on the days I’m off. And I actually took a month off on sick due to sickness and exhaustion. Thankfully my work have been lovely and staff been helping with all my heavy duty work like moving and handling I’m also finishing at 24 weeks (4 weeks annual leave before I’ve to go off shielding at 28 weeks) 18 weeks now and bump so big so counting down each week now

Hi all. I'm not a nurse, but an oncology dietitian in a busy large hospital. Although physically its fine, Im only 8 weeks. But im really struggling with the nausea and vomitting. I spend my days talking about food, nausea and vomitting. Let's be honest the wards smell, and when the hospital food comes round its even worse! I'm constantly trying to hold in the retching and excusing myself to the loo constantly as I feel nausea or need to vomit. I've bot told my manger yet. Has anyone got any tips?

Sinead543 · 29/10/2020 10:24

I had to tell my manager straight away (I was about 5 weeks) because they have to do a risk assessment and also because of the current times i can’t go into certain residents rooms if they’ve just come back from hospital for example

I am a care assistant, mainly working with those with Dementia, some of who can be violent. I am wondering when is best to tell my manager that I am pregnant? I know risk assessments need to be done etc, but am apprehensive about sharing the news with them too early.
