What bedside crib with an IKEA Malm bed?

Hi all,

We'd our heart set on getting a snuzpod as I'll be having a C-section, but they've just brought out the Snuzpod 4 which isn't compatable with our IKEA Malm bed! Any idea what bedside cribs work with a malm? It's 47cm off the floor and the frame is 7.5cm deep. I'm due in 4 weeks and starting to panic in case they arrive early and we've no crib. Any help would need much appreciated.

We also have a MALM (the ottoman version) and to be honest, I don't know if any will work, as they'd have to have the crib part offset from the base in order to bridge the gap of the platform, so to speak. It's quite frustrating.

I was thinking about cutting a separate piece of mattress foam to fill the space and sewing a cotton cover for it- like a separate little mattress we can wedge in, if that makes sense- obviously I'll need to play around with this and make sure it's secure, etc!

Did you by any chance take any photos of the snuzpod next to the bed? I'd love to visualise this!

Sadly no photos as we haven't ordered a crib yet but after spending the afternoon looking at the current bedside cribs I don't think any will work with the Malm frame unfortunately. The new safety standards mean they all have to have a min 12mm high barrier that has to sit flush with the adult mattress. There was a case where a baby died a few years ago in a similar crib with a barrier when it wasn't against a bed and the side was down so I don't think I can take the risk. Maybe a snuzpod as a stand alone crib and bassinet will just have to do!

We have a next2me that we used just as a stand alone crib - it was next to the bed so I could stroke DD but we kept the side up and it was fine. I think the latest advise is to keep the sides up when asleep because there have been a small number of deaths unfortunately. You can always look into safe cosleeping if you want which is probably easier than trying to do a fix for the bed/cot issue.
