Hey all. I am down the rabbit hole of looking at travel systems and can’t believe the cost! Unfortunately we just don’t have the money for a silver cross type brand and was wondering if anyone could recommend any good value travel systems that weren’t the price of a second hand car lol!

Have you looked on Facebook etc? We've got ours second hand and it's immaculate! :)

MotherPiglet · 27/10/2020 10:32

Venicci is a lovely brand and a lot cheaper

SunnySideUp2020 · 27/10/2020 10:34

Interested as well.
The pushchair travel system i found best cost over 1K. Which unbelievable!

Charlotte2020 · 27/10/2020 10:37

I'd say check out a range in mamas and papas, smyths or John Lewis and then try and get one second hand online. You can get absolute bargains!

Joie Versatrax travel system? It won the Made for Mums gold award for travel system under £700 and it's £345 at www.online4baby.com/joie-versatrax-gemm-car-seat-pushchair-travel-system-with-isofix-base-pavement

NameChange30 · 27/10/2020 10:44

Or you could buy a second hand pushchair / pram carrycot combo, but you would need a new car seat (Joie car seats are good value and have good safety ratings).

Caspianberg · 27/10/2020 10:46

The best value ones are ones you can use from newborn to 3 years and not need to replace as they grow.
Most of the large travel systems are swapped when baby grows to something lighter weight or easier to fold.

It depends on your lifestyle what the perfect one is. Country and rough ground you will need larger wheels, in the car more and just in town smaller fine

The one that comes up a lot is baby jogger gt. it’s fine to use from birth in main seat lie down to save cost and space ( or you can add the carrycot, easy to get secondhand). Folds in one piece small enough for most cars or public transport, quiet light, and decent enough wheels for most things. Large seat and good Meaning you could squeeze 4-5 year old in if needed. Car seat can go on with adapters. Can find secondhand easy enough or reasonably priced new

EssentialHummus · 27/10/2020 10:48

A second hand baby jogger if you can. We have/had a lovely Cosatto but in hindsight a 2nd hand pram would’ve been more than enough.

Caspianberg · 27/10/2020 10:49

FYI the baby jogger gt2 is currently £360 on amazon as a price idea

I've just bought the Cosatto Leap travel system from Argos - it was in the clearance down to £249.99 and it's suitable from birth to approx 3 years and comes with a car seat.

I struggled to find something that was nice but practical and not ridiculously expensive! Cosatto travel systems are normally about £500 plus sometimes not even including a car seat. They also seem to have really good reviews so I'm happy with that and they have nice patterns etc if that's your thing.

It is a navy blue and red pram so if you're having a girl it might not be what you want but my SIL bought a Red Kite Savannah and they do bundles on websites like online4baby and preciouslittleone where you can get a travel cot and bouncer etc included and some of those are only £300 ish x

neverenoughchelseaboots · 27/10/2020 10:51

Cosatto are very reasonable. I got a travel system for £280 off eBay but new from a baby shop that sells on there.

Still came with a few warranty etc and sent me a replacement wheel with no hassle.

Take price out of the equation and look at the features you want to suit your lifestyle. When you've found one you like, look for a second hand one for less than half the price. Always better than buying a new cheap one that isn't as good quality.

Features to consider, do you need to fold it quickly and easily to go in the car or on a bus? Look at easy fold options like Baby Jogger Mini City. Do you mostly walk everywhere and don't drive? Inflatable tyres are good to handle all the kerbs and offroading, you'll want a deep or longer seat because you'll use or for longer than someone who drives, and you'll probably want a decent sized shopping basket.

If you mostly drive when will you use the pram and how often? Something compact and easy to store for travel might be good.
Do you travel a lot? Will you use a carrycot attachment instead of a Moses basket? Handy if you wheel your pram into your house or want to take baby on a lot of walks. Make sure you get one that is safe for overnight sleeping.

If you are tall you will need an adjustable height handle. If you jog then one with automatic brakes are good. Go for features over style. Buying it brand new is madness. You can often buy cheaper second hand cars.

EmilySpinach · 27/10/2020 13:47

Baby Joggers are great value, but tbh have a look at the many second-hand groups on FB. The depreciation on travel systems is huge and people often sell on their big travel systems once they realise that they are too bulky and impractical for a toddler. They are often absolutely immaculate.

mommybear1 · 27/10/2020 13:50

I know a lot of pp have suggested second hand but also look at "older" models. I have an Uppababy Vista but I got a brand new old 2015 model for less than £300 with all the bits etc, I brought mine in 2017. Sometimes when the brand have a new model coming out they massively discount the old models to clear stock.

Twizbe · 27/10/2020 14:13

Have a look at Facebook. I got a second hand vista for my second baby and it's amazing.

passthemustard · 27/10/2020 14:19

I've just bought the Joie Versatrax pram/pushchair. It's lovely and was only £400

NameChange30 · 27/10/2020 14:59

This website looks good

APurpleSquirrel · 27/10/2020 15:16

I'd recommend a Cosatto Travel System too - we got the Treet Giggle one (car seat, frame, pram & pushchair) when we had DD in 2014. It's still going strong now DS is 2!
A friend couldn't believe it was the same one we'd had for DD. Yes, it's scuffed etc but it's had 6 years of use. Plus getting replacement parts is easy.

PrincessHB · 27/10/2020 15:40

I've also gone for a cosatto leap. £500 deal from trendy baby website and came with full system plus car seat and isofix base. I went for it because I wanted a pram but I didnt want a seperate carrycot and this will change from pram to pushchair.

PrincessHB · 27/10/2020 15:44

I also have previously had a 2nd hand Oyster travel system which was brilliant and £200 rather than the full price tag. I wouldnt have hesitate buying second hand again if I hadn't have wanted the specific design. They lose value instantly and inevitably get scratches and scraps on the frame work so never bothered me it wasnt perfect to begin with. I would never have spent more than £500 on any pushchair as I'm a fan of moving over to umbrella fold buggy at a year-18months anyway.
