Hospital bag packing - anything extra/different due to Covid?

Hey everyone

So packing my hospital bag and feels like I’m packing the entire house 🤦🏼‍♀️ But don’t want to forget anything, especially with Covid. Lots of lists and posts I’ve seen around hospital bags have said not to worry if things are forgotten, as someone can easily pop extra bits in but obviously that isn’t a reality right now!

So anyone whose given birth recently or due to soon, any additional items you’ve found youve needed/wish you took?

Also as an extra - my partner is worried about food if he isn’t allowed to leave once he’s in with me He’s packed lots of snacks but is worried if it’s a long birth (it’s our first) it won’t be enough. Can anyone shed any light on this so I can reassure him?

Thanks in advance! Xx

Hiya. 2 of my friends have just given birth in 2 different hospitals and they said their partners were not offered any kind of food, not even a cup of tea. I would ensure he takes lots of food/snacks as like you said he won't be able to leave and come back.

Hi OP. I had my DS 4 weeks ago and I went to the delivery suit at 7am. Me and DH had coffee and toast and they even brought him fish and chips for lunch, extra coffee, juice, water etc, they were amazing!
We had an entire bag full to the brim of food, snacks, drinks etc as we didn't know what to expect, but our hospital were superb!
You may want to give your hospital a call to find out.
With the hospital bag, other than the obvious, I'd say pack a fair few muslin blankets, as baby gets very sicky after they are born!
Good luck 🥰🥰🥰

My midwife has said that once we are in the labour room we cannot leave, so to pack plenty of food/drink, phone chargers, book/magazine, etc.
Pack as if you plan to be staying for a few days!!

My DH will be bringing full on pasta dinners in tubs this time. I had my first DD 2 years ago and I was 24 hours in the delivery room. I was so freaked I begged him not to leave me, and the midwives basically refused to feed him, so he lives off breakfast bars and crisps that we had packed. After DD was born I sent DH home because he was so starving and it was 4am, and tbh he had turned into a cranky 5 year old. I am 39 weeks on Monday. We wont be making the same mistake again. Pack all the food.

I m due on Monday, my DH can't leave the room during labour and the hospital has confirmed they can't facilitate feeding or giving partner's drink at all so we ve got a massive pack of crisps, biscuits, rice cakes and a fair few drinks and will make up some water bottles just before we leave to be safe.

I'm having a section but planning on taking extra snacks for the stay after and tablet/headphones loaded with stuff to watch. These no visiting at the moment at the hospital where I am so need something to kill the hours. Will pack sandwiches etc for OH in case he's stuck sat in the car for hours waiting for me to get called into theatre.

I second this! We've been told this specifically from the hospital. The canteen is closed and once you're on the maternity ward, you're on until you leave x Best of luck xx

Something tasty for post birth. I got given a poxy cheese sandwich and a yogurt for my 'dinner' after giving birth when I hadn't eaten for about 36 hours. I was RAVENOUS and had only packed a few biscuit bars. DP wasn't allowed to come back until the next day afternoon after having to leave after the birth (covid) so I would take something you could make with boiling water for a meal like noodles.
