I had my girl 12 days ago, since I’ve just been in a haze of exhaustion and trying to get on with things.
This morning I passed lots of little clots some last night as well and then this morning this huge one, the picture doesn’t actually really show the size of it. I’m still bleeding heavily and changing pads every 1-2 hours I would say.
It’s next to a full size toothpaste to try and show the size.
Do I need to contact someone?

I’d ring midwives and explain they will advise best

Orangesofaandcoffee · 24/10/2020 09:03

I agree, I was always told to let the midwife know if you pass any large clots. I think they said anything bigger than a 50p. Advice may have changed my children are older now!

Yes, ring the ward and ask. Anything bigger than a 50p was the advice I had too! Flowers

Ok thank you - I think all should be fine, I don’t really want to bother anyone because I’ve already had a readmission for baby

No, you’re not bothering them, you’re checking you’re ok. Honestly, give them a ring Flowers

I had this and called triage who wanted to see me immediately at 23:00 on a Sunday. I was admitted for observations and turned out it was retained placenta. This was a week pp. The consultant the following morning gave me 2 options, surgical management or a course of tablets that would see it come out naturally. As my blood pressure was on the high side he wouldn’t be discharging me anyway so advised the procedure - also told me I was more than likely to be a blue light admittance if I didn’t go down that route.

The procedure couldn’t be done on the Monday due to the backlog from the weekend and more urgent cases. I was taken down 13:00 on the Tuesday, done under GA and home by 18:00. Please don’t ignore this.

I agree with po anything over a 50p you need to call the ward or your midwife. Don't feel like you are bothering anyone it's always best getting checked out Thanks

Lisa78Lemon · 24/10/2020 12:24

I had similar last year for weeks & all was fine. No harm getting checked though.

theresaplaceforus · 24/10/2020 13:32

@Meepmeeep was this on the postnatal ward? Were you allowed to keep baby with you? Glad you’re recovered now

Yeah, one night in triage then moved into postnatal the second night. Thankfully I was put into private rooms both nights. Baby could have stayed, but as I was admitted close to midnight we took the decision that baby was better at home with my husband. This was before lockdown so they both spent all day with me the following day. Staff told us we had done the right thing not having baby overnight - other than some of the nightshift staff who we knew from our 4 night stay - only because they wanted baby cuddles 🤣
