Fizzy drinks?!?

Hi all...I apologise for how silly or trivial this may sound but I was wondering can you drink fizzy drinks such as Pepsi Max, Diet Coke and/or Fanta Zero when TTC or pregnant?
I've read about limiting caffeine and no alcohol. I do currently drink about two cups of tea a day, no added sugar cordial and water however I do just have those days when I 'crave' a fizzy drink! 😬

Yes you can have fizzy drinks. If limiting caffeine then go for caffeine free alternatives.

Fizzy drinks are fine in moderation. Avoid too much caffeine and choose normal over sugar free versions where possible as the sugar free have a lot of chemicals instead.

I would never choose sugar versions over sugar free. Both my kids were fine with that

I'm the opposite, would never choose sugar free over 'artificial sweetner', it's the devil's work.

You shouldn't drink many. I used to limit myself to one can a week on a Friday. What a treat and it was also a zero one. I think Fanta and 7up are caffeine free? Not sure though. I also swapped my teabags to decaf. I did have GD in pregnancy though but midwife said one can a week is fine. I used to look forward to it. Sad I know Grin

Three pregnancies, I couldn't drink anything that wasn't fizzy each time because of HG. I did lose a lot of dental enamel but that could have been the HG not the fizzy drink, I'll never know

@MasksGlovesSoapScrubs that's a good idea decaf tea bags and I think I will try and limit to one fizzy can a week as a treat. Also...can I ask what does GD mean?

@BoudiccasBoudoir what does HG mean?

Sorry I am a MN newbie I need to get used to the acronyms. ☺️

GD is gestational diabetes and HG is hyperemesis gravidarum (aka extremely bad 'morning' sickness that can end up with hospitalisation).

I didn't limit sugar free fizzy drinks and although I reduced my (high) caffeine intake, I was definitely over the recommended amount. I wouldn't worry too much, both babies turned out just fine.

I switched to decaff tea @KatieD847 IMO it tastes the same.

Fanta has no caffeine in (I googled lots) i really miss coke, I was a bit of an addict. I did drink the caffeine free one for a few weeks but by week 7 I suddenly didn’t like it anymore 🙄 so now my fizzy is Fanta, which is good because I’m craving citrus stuff atm anyway

Yes hyperemesis gravidarum
I was so sick I was medicated, nearly hospitalised, could barely eat etc. Sick multiple times a day so the enamel issues on my teeth likely came from being sick not the fizzy drink, but I don't know for sure.

I have ginger ale every day (just one) for the morning sickness... it really helps.
I too would never have sweeteners as they are poison (some of the ingredients are found in rat poison) many studies link them to cancers. I know too much sugar isn’t good either so just limit it.
I’m drinking gallons of fizzy water. I know the bubbles don’t help the gas situation (TMI) but they do help settle the stomach.

I had a can of diet fizzy coke yesterday and made me feel terribly unwell, I had to go for a lie down. Currently 27 weeks pregnant and most fizzy drinks make me feel sick and I usually love them.

Fanta zero hasn't been too bad for me though

I've had fizzy drinks through my pregnancy but just be cautious of the caffeine etc. Fizzy vimto has no caffeine and I LOVE it :)

I love fizzy drinks but they give me heartburn! I avoid them because of that ! But tonight I’m gonna treat myself and have one . I like Diet Coke better than regular Coke and even though regular Coke is likely better even with the sugar , if I’m gonna treat myself I’m gonna have what I like best . Baby will be fine :)

@Sansa87 what brand of decaf tea did you find to be ok? Not currently pregnant but for future reference, I ended up not bothering at all because the Yorkshite (typo, but it was...) decaf tea I tried I found horrendous!

If you drink Coke Zero or Pepsi max, you can have seven cans before you reach the advised caffeine limit.
I live off it so find my pregnancy limitations difficult 😂

@Kimblebee19 I really like the pg tips version. Currently using the tetley because that’s all the shop had, & that ones alright too. Other than a Lichfield one from booker, they are the only ones I’ve tried though.
