Hi guys. I’m pregnant 2nd time about 25wks. My first pregnancy I had Obstetric Cholestasis. I’ve heard there is a high chance of having it again in other pregnancies. So far no symptoms but I was in 3rd trimester when I had symptoms and was diagnosed last time so could still happen.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this in a pregnancy that then had again a 2nd+ time? Would be interested to hear your stories and experiences of it.
Also if you did have it again was it easier because you knew what to expect or did you have a more difficult experience?

Hey
I had it in my first pregnancy. currently 34 weeks and no itching. Not sure if this is helpful.

@wajiha25 Oh that’s good news. Have you done anything different this time to prevent it like different diet or anything? Or is it just by chance you haven’t had it again do you think?

I had it in my first. Only 13 weeks at the moment so generally too early too develop it, but I have been tested. Have you heard of the charity icp support? They have a private Facebook group run by the charity chief exec, who is also an oc/ICP researcher. Lots of ladies on there who have had ICP before, it's good for advice both medical and experience X

I had it in my 1st pregnancy and didn't I think the two after so I don't think it's guaranteed! Fingers crossed for you that you avoid it this time

Nope nothing different at all. Probably worse eating habits this time around.

I had it with my daughter - I ended up having an emergency induction as my levels were so bad 😔.
I'm currently 14 weeks with number 2. I have been told that I will have weekly blood tests when I get to the 3rd trimester to monitor it. I think they hope to catch it early if it happens this time.

@Quail15 Hi thanks for your post. I had an emergency induction as well. This is what I’m scared of. They told me they would only do the testing if I start scratching again 😕 I might request check ups around 30 odd wks just to be sure. They tried to fob me off when my levels were really high at first but when I saw another doctor the next day he said he wanted to induce me that day cos it was too high. I do feel like some of them acted like it was nothing to worry about last time, I don’t want that again.
Anyway good luck with your pregnancy, hopefully all will be well with you this time 🙂

I had this in my second pregnancy ( really late, around 39 weeks)

But scared to develop it again and sooner in this pregnancy ( currently only 12 weeks)

My midwife just said if it happens again we are more aware of the symptoms and what this could mean.

Iv been so worried about it already!

Meinthecorner · 25/10/2020 19:22

I was diagnosed at 40 weeks (after 8 weeks of itching and blood tests with rising levels) and was induced followed by EMCS. Second pregnancy levels were above normal but not above the threshold for diagnosis and the itching wasn't as bad. I had steroid injections in case early induction was needed. In the end I went into labour naturally and had a vbac at 39 weeks. Good luck!
