Shifting baby from back to back

Has anyone successfully managed to move their baby from back to back to facing the right way? Mine currently is back to back, my two previous labours were back to back and horrendous needing intervention. Has anyone got any positions they got into that worked ? Thankyou Smile

Yes! A downwards inversion thing, you might need help with it depending on how agile you’re feeling. Look on the Spinning Babies website, very helpful.xx

My 1st labour was back to back, my midwife advised me to spend lots of time crawling around on all fours!!!! It didn't work for me but I thought I would mention it just in case it works for you, I hope it does!

Lots of all fours as previous poster said. Also don’t sit slouched on the sofa as apparently that encourages them to be back to back. I was told to sit up straight.

Yes! Made sure I didn't slouch back on her sofa, lots of time on all fours. I used to rest on my birth ball on all fours watching tv.

As PP said there is a fan position to try:

Go on all fours (bring pillows to help where needed), lower your head and chest to the floor while keeping your bum up in the air. Stay like this for as long as you can. I turned my head to the side and watched tv. I also warned my DH he would get a kick if he made one single comment about how I looked 😂

The idea is baby is pulled out of the pelvis by gravity and then has wriggle room to readjust so then when you right yourself again they move downwards into a more suitable birth position. I was pregnant with my third, he wasn't engaged which I was incredulous about. I did this for an hour or so and went to bed, woke at 330, 7cm dilated and he was born by 530am! I wish I had known about this for my first, he was back to back and face up and I had terrible tearing 😬

I'll be trying this again for baby 4!! Good luck!! X

You can do it whenever you like, it won't trigger labour 👍

My back to back baby turned in labour. I was active throughout the induction, all well and very easy to manage. Strong contractions but no progress, 2cm for hours. When we realised he was b2b, midwife told me to lie on one side for 15 min then swap to the other side. I didn't like being on the bed but it worked! Avoided c-section, he turned and I went from 2-10cm in 20 min, no tears, pushed for 9 minutes. So so grateful to that midwife!
