As well as being pregnant myself I've got a few friends who are due in the next couple of months and trying to plan ahead for what to get them when their babies arrive. Due to distance it will have to be something that can be sent by post...what are the best new baby presents you've sent or received?

I can tell you that what I'd really love to receive at the moment that could go through the post is hats and socks for newborns, as everyone has (very kindly) given vests and baby grows.

Could also just ask them what they're short of?

I was thinking maybe something that's more of a treat for the parents, a little luxury as I know they've got all the essentials...

Someone got me a little food hamper with my first. It had white chocolate cookies from m&s and 9 years later I can still remember how much I appreciated them at the middle of the night feeds.

It's such a tricky one as everyone has such different tastes and ideas on baby things. I have 3 DC and I found that my taste in baby clothes has even changed a lot since my
eldest was born. Honest to god it's boring as anything but I've always loved vouchers. That way whatever you buy is useful and can be used.

If it's something for the parents then make it edible - a kind friend bought me some pampering bits like face masks etc when I had a baby but I had no time to use them!

Cook! Or hello fresh/gusto vouchers.
M&S food hamper.
Netflix or audible subscription

I was thinking maybe a nice treat hamper or something, has anyone seen any nice ones?

My husband bought me £70 worth of selectors from hotel chocolate when they were on offer. It was a lot of chocolate but kept me happy for the last month of being pregnant and about the first 6 weeks of mum life. Was the best thing ever.

In terms of presents for baby, I have found this teething/distraction necklace super useful www.yummikeys.com/products/yummi-stainless-steel-teething-necklace

The only “treats” I would’ve appreciated would’ve been edible ones!

These. Best bootees I've ever had.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 20/10/2020 19:10

100% edible stuff.

Bits for the baby are very subject to both personal taste and what they already have.

But at 3am with a newborn, everyone wants biscuits.

I used this company for a relatives birthday. I ended up doing a customised box where I chose what I wanted in it.

I thought it was super and said relative loved it.

M&S have great hampers. Sent one to my cousin who just had a baby and she said the snacks have been amazing for late night breastfeeding.

Helenknowsbest · 21/10/2020 09:04

Honestly one of the best gifts I received was a care package for myself. Gin, bubble bath, tea tree oil, face mask and chocolates. This was greatly appreciated after. For the baby I honestly appreciated gift cards for next and m&s so I can go buy the clothes for baby that I wanted. Also for a friend we put our money together for a floor mat/gym thing and she loved that as it was a big ticket item she didn't have to worry about.
