Midwife referral

Hi, I'm about 6 weeks pregnant and in my area you have to self refer for your first midwife appointment. It says they are to see you between 8-10 weeks. I did this about 10 days ago and haven't heard anything back. How long did it take for them to contact you?

Hi I'd imagine it depends on your area. I I called my go and they referred me at 7 weeks. got my booking apt and first scan date letters from the hospital. My booking apt was at 11 weeks. Didn't hear from anyone before that.

Gp *

Also to add if you haven't heard by 8/9 weeks maybe just give them a call to make sure you're on their list

My midwife called me at around 7.5 weeks to ask when was the best time to call for my booking in appointment, then my booking in appointment was at 8+3 I think

Okay thank you. I just need to be more patient haha

I heard about 2 weeks after I self referred, I did it via email rather than a call to the midwife's. My drs do not do the referral.
One came as my booking appointment on one letter and my 12wk scan on another letter both in the same envelope. Handy as I knew when my first 2 appointments would be.

I ended up having my booking appointment combined with my first scan due to corona. It’s mainly a series of questions so don’t get too hung up on the 8-10 week thing.

babblebeee · 20/10/2020 10:46

Mine was via email too. I thought there would be an acknowledgment email, but there was nothing so was wondering if maybe it didn't go through. I will wait until I'm 8 weeks and call if I still haven't heard anything. Thanks everyone

@babblebeee it's dreadful isn't it! I was hoping even if it wasn't a personalised email to at least get a generic automated 'thanks for your email, please do not respond to this email' sort of thing but nothing until a big thump on my floor through the letter box 🤣

samlh · 20/10/2020 12:17

I did the self referral last week (i'm 5+2 today) and I got my 12 week scan appointment through, but no booking appointment as yet.

I'm just going to wait until i'm around 8 weeks and then give them a chase :)

SacramentoQueen · 20/10/2020 12:22

I sent the referral at about 5 weeks, will be 9 weeks this week and still haven’t heard anything. I called them last week to chase and they said they were behind, and took my name and number and said they would check my referral had gone through and call me if it hadn’t. I still haven’t heard anything so I’m assuming it has gone through!

babblebeee · 21/10/2020 13:08

Most places now send a generic email, you would think they would set one up, would probably save them a lot of phone calls from women eagerly waiting for their appointments haha

I got my booking appointment through yesterday for 17/11.. It's a phone appointment.

How do I get my folder if it's a phone appointment? Do they post it?

Sorry for the questions, never done this before! :)

peachypetite · 22/10/2020 11:07

@samlh you’ll be able to collect them at the 12 week scan most likely.

samlh · 22/10/2020 11:16

@peachypetite Thank you :) I like to be organised (sometimes too much)

peachypetite · 22/10/2020 11:56

No worries! Your midwife will explain on the phone anyway. I had a booking done on the phone too and then my bloods, urine and notes all done at my 12 week scan - this was to minimise time spent and number of trips at the hospital.
