What beauty products should I avoid whilst pregnant?

My skin care routine has always been bad and I have finally kicked myself into gear. However I am now very confused as to what I can and can't use 🤦 I have greasy skin which has got worse since getting pregnant. I am only 5 weeks but want to make sure I am not using anything that's not safe.
I know retinol is a no no. How about salicylic acid, glycerin, Hyaluronic acid, BHAs and AHAs? Attached a picture of the products in question

Hi @Trying4one,

I saw a dermatologist at the beginning of my pregnancy and she advised to steer clear of any acids, BHA and AHA. She said I could use salicylic acid in small amounts.

I have being trying to keep it as natural as possible - mainly the camomile range from body shop. Occasional use salicylic acid patches on pregnancy acne areas.

Hope this helps x

I was told bo retinol and no BHA but AHA was fine, again by a dermatologist.

Look up Dr Anjali Mahto on Instagram, she has done detailed post on what skin care products are safe in pregnancy and what it not.

The only one you have to avoid as per nhs is retinol, everything else is fine. Retinol is probably fine too but its not tested so they don't want you to risk it.
I've found vitamin c and glycolic acid (liquid gold by alpha h) an absolute face saver whilst pregnant, I really found it hard initially without retinol and these have helped loads.
Just worth remembering your skin may be more sensitive, or not like what it used to - mine has changed loads.

I was using retinol - didnt realise we arent allowed! Not too worried as its "untested" rather than "unsafe". Not sure what to replace it with hmmm

I work with skincare products. Salicylic acid is a big no. Which is a nightmare as it’s in so much spot stuff and my spots are popping up like daisys. Retinol obviously a no too. Vitamin E and vitamin C are very good.

Retinol is just another name for vitamin A. We know this is unsafe in pregnancy - hence the advice not to eat pate.
TheDaydreamBelievers · 19/10/2020 22:32

@Turtleturtle81 unsafe to consume but no evidence about putting on skin "Retinoids that you put on your skin have not been shown to cause problems in pregnant women. Doctors are just being extra cautious in recommending that you avoid them."

However I will obviously avoid now I know

My consultant made me stop taking the topical retinol cream I use as soon as I became pregnant. The packaging states it’s unsafe for pregnancy as can cause birth defects.

Hi I'm currently not pregnant 😔 but we have been trying to conceive and have just started IVF. I would like to start using skincare products and recently brought:
•Nivea Q10 Power, Anti-wrinkle and Firming
Eye Cream
•Neutrigina Hydro Boost Gel Cream
•Garner Micellar Cleansing Water
I wanted to know if these 3 products are safe to use during pregnancy? As I'm not using any products that could be harmful when pregnant just incase I am pregnant without knowing it while we're trying.
Many thanks x
