So, I keep reading everywhere that your milk doesnt really come in whilst at hospital. So then, how is baby fed? By formula in the hospital given bottles?

No, babies as newborns don't need huge amounts of milk. They drink small amounts of colustrum from the breast (if you bf obviously).

They drink colostrum from your breasts and the feeding stimulates your proper milk to come in

Their tummies are absolutely tiny when they are born. All they need is small amounts of colostrum. My dd was in scbu and they fed her with 1ml syringes of my colostrum

I breastfed my baby colostrum in hospital. My milk came in after I got home. It's still breastfeeding whether it's colostrum (might be worth a google) or breast milk Smile

Before your milk comes in (day 4 for me) you produce colostrum. I'd recommend getting a good breastfeeding book and getting in touch with your local breastfeeding support group so you know what to expect and where to get help with feeding.

I've read somewhere that you can start collecting colostrum before the birth. Would this help your milk come in for when the baby is born

You can harvest colostrum before birth but it can take time. It won't make milk come in before birth though. Milk production is triggered by the birth of the placenta.
