Changing table/space saving

Hi all,
Baby no4 on the way with a big age gap between our youngest who’s 9.
We’re looking to move to a bigger place for when baby needs his own room, but will obvs be in our room for at least 6 months. We’ve got space to keep toiletries, nappies, clothes in the bathroom/our room.
We’ve got a huge chest of drawers, huge wardrobe, dressing table and 2 bedside cabinets in our room already (DH hoards clothes). Do you think I really need a changing table?? I can’t imagine traipsing upstairs for every nappy change and we’ve got space on our bed to get baby dressed. I don’t seem to remember using the changing table much with the older ones, but it’s been a while. Would anyone consider this an absolute essential? Xx

You really really dont need a changing table!

Individual choice. I can't kneel so used mine all the time but used a cot top changer. Used cloth nappies and had a tiny house so was no effort to change upstairs.

We had a changing table (SIL gave us hers) I’ve never used the thing ... it’s only purpose is a dumping ground for stuff. We have a changing mat in the living room and our 2 & 11 month olds rooms. Just change them on those on the floor or bed or cot

I have 3ds and we never had a changing table. Instead we had a changing mat in bathroom and one under the sofa in the lounge and just changed on the floor. I always used cloth wipes so had a top and tail bowl for the warm water and kept nappies in the changing bag downstairs.

Definitely not an essential. I just used a mat on the floor/bed to change DS1. DS2 due in a few weeks and will be doing the same again.

I didn't buy one, just had cheap changing mats in each room.

We had a mat on the floor or on top of the chest of drawers.

We have one, but it barely got used until I went back to work and couldn't dress him on our bed any more, as his father for some reason objects to having a soggy baby plonked on him at 7am!

If you've got a good space on top of the chest of drawers just get one of the IKEA mats with the sides so they can't roll off and use it there.

Thanks all, I’ve been trying to convince myself it’s not an essential. We’ve got space in the bathroom for a mat on the floor if needed and downstairs so feel like it would just be a place to store yet more junk! Thank you xx

I've never had a changing table and just change mine over my knee.

Years ago before modern changing units all mums changed nappies over their knee but I don't know of anyone else who still does it.
