Hi. I am 40 and 5+5 today. Reading these forums has taught me a few things that I didn't know before, one of which has to do with previous LLETZ treatment. I had a loop diathermy around 13 years ago, not long after my DS was born. I had no idea there was a risk involved for future pregnancies. How do I know what the depth of cells taken was? From reading, I understand that anything over 10mm is of concern. I can't remember if I had CIN1 or CIN2 now. How do I find out if this might be a problem?

I made my midwife aware of the lletz and she scheduled a cervical length scan fairly early in pregnancy. If you’ve made it full term without issue it doesn’t seem like it is a problem for you. I thought the risk was that the cervix might be too short to ‘hold’ to term so the early scan is to know if you need a cerclage (stick) to help the cervix hold until you reach term.

Ah sorry- though it was 40 weeks. Just mention it at your next appointment with the midwife so they can book you a scan.

I am now 25+3 I had a LLETZ about 6 years ago. I had scans at 16 weeks, and 23 weeks to check length of cervix. Once you get to 24 weeks they stop monitoring you as there’s a good chance baby will survive if it was born after that.

I had CIN2 and the amount removed was approximately the size of a thumbnail, about 9 months before I fell pregnant. I was referred to the consultant and had a scan to check cervical length at 21 weeks, due to spotting and some other minor issues I was checked again at 22, 23 and 24 weeks. Between weeks 23 and 24 my cervix had shortened by 1cm, so was monitored then regularly until I reached 36 weeks and was given progesterone pessaries. All was fine in the end :)
