Hi I'm new to this so hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm 9 weeks into my first pregnancy after having an eptopic in the past I'm worrying about everything I'm told I don't see the midfife untill 16 weeks and I'm waiting for the hospital to book me in for a scan between 10 and 14 weeks they said. I was wanting to book a scan sooner just to put my mind at rest and for my partner to come iv seen alot of people have had private scans do they need to be at a hospital? Iv seen loads of clinics advertised online like window to womb and lollipod 4d scans. Are these places reccomended to go to?

Hi. I had a private scan at 10 weeks at window to the womb. It was a lovely experience and meant my husband could be with me. I'd go for it x

I also did an early scan was good really put my mind at rest x

You should have your booking appointment between 8 and 12 weeks, not 16.
Also depending on your area, partners can come to scan.. you can phone and check before hand.

I used ABC4D for a gender scan with DS2, think it cost around £50/60. A private scan is really up to you though x

@whilstwewait ah that's one of the places I looked at I was worried as iv seen some on Groupon and stuff and didn't know if they were trusted places but I think I may book in I feel like I can't wait any longer. Do they give you any pictures or anything at 10 weeks and is there much there to see at this time? I'm clueless about all this 😂
@queenbee95 the midwife rang me early this week is that the booking appointment she said I won't see her though untill after my scan at around 16 weeks but iv registered at my local hospital to go for bloods and the 12 week scan as my local midfife works for a diffrent hospital which isn't near to me(very confusing) what does ds2 mean?

Aw ok! Well that makes a little more sense.

DS - dear son. I have two sons so DS1 & DS2, MN abbreviate a lot 😂

You’d be best trying on groupon/wowcher as someone suggested, you may get a discounted scan. But most places (window to the womb, abc4d, etc are great places to go to) and yes you will receive pictures to take home

I would recommend Window To The Womb. I’m having my first baby & have been 3 times throughout my pregnancy. Mainly because partners were not allowed into 12 & 20 week scans at the time.

Hi!
I had an early scan at 7+3 with ultrasound direct and I'd definitely recommend. I was a nervous wreck from the second I found out I was expecting and only seemed to find horror stories online (I've stayed away from googling now 😂😅) but it was such a relief. I'm 13+5 now and don't know how I would have made it without that reassurance. 16 weeks before seeing a midwife seems a little long? I thought it was between 8 and 10 weeks to have a booking appointment and first blood tests? I'd query it if I were you just to make sure

Oh and ask about partners as well. He should definitely be allowed in for a private scan and I think they are allowing partners in a lot of NHS ones now too

Whilstwewait · 17/10/2020 14:23

@Chip831 they were really professional and yes could see baby clearly. It gave us a nice wave xx

I've had my scans done privately at Harley Street - three now (first one I had at 7 weeks, then 12, then 20) and I couldn't recommend it more. My partner was with me for all. I've heard from friends that they take much more time to explain what they are seeing, and for us it was so reassuring. I've not had any scans through the NHS yet, but now I'm registered at a hospital, I expect to have at least one. In our area, in London, partners aren't allowed for the scans, I believe. For us, we wanted to also avoid busy hospitals for as long as possible due to Covid.

I had a private scan at 10 weeks and a private scan at 18 weeks so my husband could be there with me. The experience was fantastic! So calm and relaxing. I'd definitely recommend!

I’ve had several private scans and experiences vary. In my experience if everything is ok then they are fine. I had a fairly unpleasant experience in my last pregnancy where there was no heartbeat - the scanner was clearly horrified and didn’t know what to do - I ended up apologising to her as she looked like she was going to burst into tears. I was basically thrust into the street 5 mins later with a vague instruction to come back in two weeks. I phoned EPU when I got home and they sorted things out.

So if all is well I think these cheap private scans are fine but they are not set up to deal with problems - hopefully everything will be fine and at nine wks you should be able to see quite a bit.
