How long after waters breaking did your contractions start?

So I’m 40 weeks exactly today and this morning I had an appt at hospital to have a sweep as I have obstetric cholestasis! Funnily enough at 6:30am I noticed the bed was a little wet! Midwife did the swab and confirmed it came back positive for waters breaking and did my second sweep (had one last Sunday)

I’ve been sent home for 24 hours before I have to go to the delivery suite! Haven’t really got contractions just mild cramping. How long after your waters went did you start regular contractions? And any advice on how to get them started would be great :) thank you!

About 6 hours for me, remember to breathe through the contractions to save your energy, I screamed my way through mine all night and didn't realise this uses up valuable energy 😆

Oh good luck too, I'm not sure what speeds them up maybe walking around a bit? Not that you feel like walking!

I was the opposite so not very helpful but I was in full blown active labour and my waters only broke when baby was crowning...now that was a shock as the waters had cusioned the blow up until then so to speak!!
Good luck
If able have a walk and keep moving Flowers

Waters broke at 7ish in dramatic fashion.. No contractions. Baby arrived within 6 hours

crimsonlake · 17/10/2020 12:10

Waters broke, contractions started straight away. Phoned the hospital and they sent an ambulance as they thought baby was imminent. He arrived within 3 hours.

My back waters I think they are went in the morning like a tiny little trickle and had nothing. 6.30 that same night (due date) cooking dinner my waters went in three big gushes and then as soon as they had finished going it was full on pain lol I was like what in the world is this pain lol i was a right pansy 😂. Good luck!! x

@Alychloe I had to have my water broke for me both times so I'm not sure but just wanted to wish the best of luck ❤️
How amazing for you that your little baby will be in your arms very soon xxxx

welshladywhois40 · 17/10/2020 14:22

19 hours so was on the cusp of being inducted.

Oneandabean · 17/10/2020 14:45

Mine didn’t at all, I had to be induced as there is a risk of infection once waters have gone, I got an infection anyway. I tried everything to get them going

Superscientist · 17/10/2020 15:31

3 hours, they were 3 in 10 minutes 30 seconds long from the start. Baby born within 12h of waters going

annlee3817 · 17/10/2020 16:08

1 hour for me, but it was my hind waters that first went, two hours I think after the contractions started my waters went completely Hollywood style, hope things start for you soon

PopsicleHustler · 18/10/2020 05:44

With my last baby, baby number 4 , they had to break my waters in order to speed things up as nothing was happening. I was contracting in the birthing pool but it was slowing down.
I naturally have ridiculously long labours and so the waters breaking helped to speed them up. I had the baby 3 hours after they broke my waters. Would be great if they can do it again with baby number 5. Rather than spending a full day at home labouring because every time invent back to the hospital, I wasnt dilating enough.

LittleBlueBee · 18/10/2020 06:34

Very crampy back ache within an hour, then contractions started within about 2 hours, very strong by the time I got to hospital, had him 5 hours after my water broke. But he was my 3rd baby and my first 2 were massive so there wasn't much ahem resistance to him coming out.

Good luck OP hoping you have a baby in your arms now or very soon
