I am 33+4 and I am in desperate need to get some sleep. My midwife said I had a touch of spd. I knew it would be uncomfortable trying to sleep but for the past 4 night I have got a max of maybe 2 hours sleep if that. I am in so much pain with my hips. Only when I lay down. I use a maternity pillow between my legs and have extra blankets under my sheets to make it more comfortable but none of this works. Ether on my left or right side ( my midwife said I shouldn't be sleeping on my right side anyway). Can I sleep on my back if I sleep on my sofa wich is a recliner? I am so desperate for some sleep. Does anyone else have this problem I would be so grateful for some advice xx

Could you get the gp to prescribe some pain meds for before bed?

I thought we could only take paracetamol

The gp prescribed me codeine in my last pregnancy because of pgp. Other meds can be taken by the direction of a doctor.

I used to sleep on top of a thick duvet which did help.

I think sleeping in a reclining chair, so propped up a bit, not flat on your back, would be OK actually. Because the weight of your uterus on the artery that would usually be squashed whilst flat on your back, would not be putting so much pressure on it. Double check though, as I'm pretty sure about this but not 100% certain.

I had the same in my recent pregnancy, I asked the GP to prescribe codeine (which is fine in pregnancy) and it definitely helped. I only took it once a day, before bed, and it got me some much needed sleep as I was losing my mind!

I bought a zero gravity reclining garden chair - it was the only thing I could sit or lie on without awful pain. I did need pain relief - I wash having twins and my pelvis was absolutely wrecked. Try to keep your knees together as much as possible when getting in and out of bed, rolling over, in and out of the car etc.
