Has anyone ever gone into labour with a first child without being engaged? I am 40+1 still not engaged so sweep could not be performed. I am so stressed have 5 blood clots in my leg which they are telling me not to worry about and wont treat!

partner due to start treatment for hes Ms in a week and a half so will be feeling utter sh*t if she comes round that time due to hes infusions and steroids he will have to take. I'm so stressed cant cope with this waiting! I have been walking 7 miles a day bouncing on my birth ball and nothing!

Been such a stressful time recently and no sign of baby arriving :( only induction date they can give is 27th of this month

I went into labour out of the blue both times with no signs at all. DS wasn't remotely engaged, head was high and free and I felt utterly normal. My waters popped while I was asleep.

Ds never engaged before labour as he was back to back.
Have they told you what position the baby is in?

babygroups · 16/10/2020 15:21

Should have added, I went into labour at 40+7 and had him at 40+8

Baby was not engaged on due date and I declined a sweep. Baby was born less than 24 hours after my appointment. If you're stressed it's not helping your body get ready for Labour, your body cannot labour with stress hormones flowing, you need that oxytocin to get things going, watch feel good comedies and walk walk walk as much as possible

@GunsAndShips ah ok thanks this gives me some hope!

@babygroups babys sideways. Back against my left side of stomach and limbs over to the right, shes always been in this position I wonder if that could be why then x

@apric0t Ok that is good to know, my midwife seemed pretty sure baby wont be making an appearance any time soon!

You’ll be ok. Babies don’t come out always when they’re engaged, you can start labour and your baby pretty much drops (non scientific language but you get what I mean)

Even if that doesn’t happen, induction is absolutely fine also.

I know it’s really hard to do but do try and relax, it will help your body and your baby will be here before you know it

I would never normally advise this sort of thing but with the clots and the complications with your husband can you call and say you are concerned about reduced movements? I had reduced movements about 38 weeks in my last pregnancy and they were desperate to induce me there and then even though baby didn’t seem distressed on monitor as I had reported reduced movements in full term. Obviously all trusts are different

It could well be depending what position her head is in and the angle of her chin (and to a certain degree the shape of your pelvis). She has to be able to get into the pelvis in order to engage. You can go into labour without engaging first though (I did) x

Try some belly down swimming, being on hands and knees as much as possible and when you're sitting make sure your knees are below your hips.

Pipperleen · 16/10/2020 16:53

I was in a similar position to you a couple of weeks ago. I did end up being induced at 42 weeks and she arrived the next day. It was tough but doable and has not put me off doing it again.
Whatever route you end up going down, your body is built for this and you will get through it. Best of luck x

I'm shocked they have left you to go into labour naturally. My little girl has been transverse, shoulder down from 17weeks. If she isn't head down next week 36+weeks they are sending me for a scan and ELCS.
This is my third baby though so might be why?

I would also say you are worried, your midwives aren't feeling what you are feeling and mothers instinct is best so phone and say you are worried and you'd like to be checked. Be firm

Also Try doing all the old wives tales, walking, sex, hot curry etc but most importantly relax (easier said than done)
Best of luck, please let us know how you get on xx

Ugh that's such a shame. I feel for you. I have a sweep booked in on my due date on Wednesday. I have been engaged for about 4 weeks!! Its so uncomfortable and my midwife was like oh I'm certain you'll go before your due date... nope!!
I agree with PP I went into labour with my DD on my due date, I was so stressed about going over. And the day I decided to give up and chill out it happened. I had been doing it and the day I stayed in bed all day it happened!
