This is what it says on the packet at the back 'Wafer thin sliced, cooked and smoked reformed ham with added water.'

Just follow the NHS guidelines.

It’s fine.

Macarena1980 · 15/10/2020 23:38

It’s cooked so your fine, it’s just uncooked ham or cured meats like Parma ham your advised to avoid.

I got told not to eat pre packed sandwiches because they are coated with chemicals to preserve them. Ask your midwife.

Cooked ham is fine. Since this one says "roast" I'd assume you're fine! I've actually been buying the exact same ham from Tesco to put in my own sandwiches with no I'll effects.

Have never heard of packaged sarnies being coated in anything (that's why they typically say "consume on day of purchase" or have short expiry dates) or otherwise being a problem.

They might have a slightly increased sulphite content in some of the ingredients but I very much doubt they are 'coated in chemicals'. That's just scare mongering. Probably unhealthy in their fat/sugar/salt content but nothing worse than that.

Hi, not sure if you've seen the NHS guidelines on what not to eat: www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/foods-to-avoid-pregnant/ . It explicitly says that cold prepackaged meat such as ham is safe. Cured meats such as salami, chorizo and prosciutto shouldnt be eaten unless cooked thoroughly (ie you can eat if you cook them)

Snackasaurus · 17/10/2020 07:56

You'll be fine! :)

londongirl12 · 17/10/2020 08:09

It might be because it's not advisable to eat lots of processed meat, for anyone in general. Could you cook a joint yourself and cut off slices? You know a bit more what's in it then

The advice about cooked prepacked meat is probably from the US. In the UK they are perfectly safe to eat. Cured meats can be eaten if cooked or frozen first
