Cramps and constipation 😬

Hello,

I am 9w 6d and am suffering from terrible constipation. I am trying to have a high fibre diet but nothing seems to help!
I always feel bloated and as if I have trapped wind which is getting more and more uncomfortable as the days go by.
I am eating extremely bland food as I am also suffering from nausea.
Is anyone going through anything similar or does anyone have any advice?

Thank you in advance!

Yes I was, and still am a little (now 14 weeks). Moving helps, so I went for a run/long walk. Also had proper caffinated coffe.
What vits and mins are you taking? I was taking pregcare and went down to everyother day, but was suffering with low iron so been taking spatone for that which doesn't bung you up as much.

I actually had this conversation with my GP today as my IBS is so awful. She suggested peppermint tea or peppermint squash with warm water for the bloating and something like lactose (you can buy it from the pharmacy), macrogol or fybogel sachets are perfectly safe to use for the constipation if diet alone isn't helping

Yep! I'm not too constipated but I'm bloated, nauseous, uncomfortable. And I have to eat small portions regularly.

I worked out in my previous pregnancy that a smoothie each morning helps keep constipation away. I buy a bag of frozen berries and whizz them in the blender each morning. I find it helps the nausea a bit too.

It's all because increased progesterone slows the digestive system.

I'm trying and I sickness bands tonight to see if it takes the edge off nausea.

Definitely take steps to sort it now as constipation will get more uncomfortable as baby grows and can cause/worsen piles.

I use dulco ease tablets as I can’t drink lactulose (gross and makes me vom) I also find eating pears and fruit & veg smoothies every day a great help!

Lots of people swear by prunes (not me, yuck!) Baked beans are great!

And obviously stay really hydrated - you need so much more water than you think! Make sure pee stays v pale coloured :)

Try having a homemade smoothie. The frozen berries from the store (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries) they come in a big bag, 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, half a slice of banana, some super greens and a couple tablespoons of chia seeds. It is loaded with your daily fiber and antioxidants, I am currently 18 weeks (baby is measuring at 19 weeks and 1 day) and I drink one every morning for breakfast and have yet to have issues with constipation and have very little bloating. Also you'll want to look at your prenatals. Too much iron can cause issues with constipation. I'm not saying I am not going to get constipation as everyone tells me it is going to happen, but so far I am counting my blessings and I am a believer that my morning smoothie sure helps, and it's healthy! Also, getting up and moving. Going for a 30 minute walk can help keep things moving in your system. Find out what irritates your stomach and causes the nausea. I can't eat ice cream, cheddar cheese (but other cheeses are fine, its weird), mac n cheese makes me vomit, anything really sweet, and anything thick with spices. And definitely water! My OB tells me to drink a gallon a day and then supplement with electrolytes. I don't necessarily drink that much but I have a 64oz water bottle I carry around and make sure I drink all of that and then some. I often forget to take the electrolytes but I do use salt in my food, so I think it helps.

Hope this helps!

Good luck and hope this helps!

Thank you all soo much!
I was taking pregnacare but they made me feel awful so i’m taking so multivitamins my midwife gave me.
I have purchased some frozen fruit today and will see how it goes.
I’m generally active and walk to work and back everyday which is about 3 miles in total.
Beans haven’t actually helped me as I tried them in the beginning they actually made the situation worse wierdly enough.

I had this and ended up phoning the Drs as I believed something was happening with the baby! The Dr was lovely and prescribed me Laxido - sachets that you mix with water and drink. They've helped loads! :)

I'm the exact same and 10 weeks tomorrow, I know I should eat more fruit and veg as well to help but really struggling to stomach anything

peachypetite · 16/10/2020 19:55

I’m 34 weeks and haven’t struggled with constipation. I eat a slice of Hovis seed sensations most days, lots of fruit, veg and I add flax seeds where possible.

Bearcub01 · 16/10/2020 20:39

I’ve not been constipated as such but very rarely go to the toilet. Last week I tried drinking some cranberry juice and this week I blended some frozen berry’s with ice and cranberry juice and both times I’ve drank it, the day after I had such a bad stomach and had to go about 4 times lol!! So maybe the frozen fruit will help and maybe some fruit juice.

I’ve been so constipated during my pregnancy, i had endometriosis on my bowels previously so am quite used to it. Yoga, water and a little stool to raise your legs whilst on the loo has got to be my magic formula ☺️
