Hi everyone
I've been trying to conceive for 10 months now, doing everything I can, using the ovulation tests and am still not getting anywhere. I've got 3 early detection tests this month and have just used one on the 6th day before my missed period (not the digital one) clear blue. Does anyone have any experience on whether they are actually reliable so early on? Mine was negative so experiencing the disappointment yet again

@Keeptrying12
Hey, the cheap dip ones you get online told me I was pregnant 7 days before blue/first response did.
Good luck xx

Keeptrying12 · 15/10/2020 08:43

Thank you! do you remember which ones you bought? Did you find the CB took a while to show in comparison? Xx

Hi, sorry I have never tested before missed period was due so unsure about Clearblue but just wanted to share that we tried for 18 months before getting a positive test. It was so frustrating and upsetting each month as time went on but once it happened, it's like all of that is a distant memory. Wishing you all the best.

Keeptrying12 · 15/10/2020 09:18

@penguin423 thank you for sharing... its good to hear other peoples experiences to stay hopeful. Its difficult to try and think positively when you feel you've done everything right! I'm sure it will happen soon, im hoping the early detection kits aren't very good and I'll get a positive in a few days when I'm due as I feel different this time, but again I might be over analysing everything.. we will see... thank you x

@Keeptrying12
All my positive lines took 3-5 minutes to appear, even on due date. And when I finally got a clear blue line, it was never defined/solid line!
Sorry I can't remember the make, but you just need the cheap ones on amazon that you have to dip yourself (I had a pee pot, as trying to put the stick under whilst peeing made the ink go funny!).
I would only use the first pee of the day. And I never tested two days in a row - purely for my own sanity xx

I’m sorry you’re feeling disappointed today. I got a positive about 3 days before my missed period (wasn’t clearblue, but boots own brand early testing - they’re all the same when you look at the manufacturing code!) don’t be too disheartened, and try again in a few days.

Are you certain you were DTD on the right days? I absolutely 100% recommend the clearblue ovulation sticks. Whilst I’d happily buy a cheap pregnancy test, I’d never skimp on ovulation sticks so while they’re expensive (about £20 a month) I thought it was totally worth it. It tells you exactly when to DTD and when the lead up is (unlike the cheap ones which tell you the day you’ve ovulated without much warning). Just my opinion

AegonT · 15/10/2020 09:51

It took me 10 months of TTC this time (1 month the first time but a few years ago) and I was using ovulation sticks and not just trying those days but every other day for almost half the month! I was losing hope and had been to GP and was going to have blood tests. I tried not to test before my period; I tried to just get on with other stuff and try not to over Google TTC - it was hard though!

Keeptrying12 · 15/10/2020 11:46

Thank you everyone! @kittenpeak I did use the ovulation kit from clear blue this time as have heard lots of positive things, maybe this is why I'm more disappointed this time.. but I'm holding on to hope it could be too early, even though they are the early tests! I'm going to hold out testing again until my due date (easier said than done) ... @AegonT
That sounds exactly like me .. I'm 27 and my doc has recommended blood tests but I keep putting off thinking ill try one more time. If I'm not this month I think ill get the tests. Thank you all very much for your advice, I joined this today and the support is so nice

It took me six cycles (around ten months) with my dd, and found it hard to judge when to dtd because of erratic cycles, and finding it hard to judge ovulation. In the end I think we just dtd every other day for the whole cycle! I've heard the pink dye (FRER) ones are best for early detection, good luck x

biscuit13 · 15/10/2020 11:57

@Keeptrying12 im sorry you are feeling disappointed again.
I used the clear blue advanced ovulation kit which was really good, and also used preeseed which is a fertility lube, I fell the month I used that properly, so worth a try if you haven't already?
I also only got a positive on a first response test the day before period was due.
Good luck!! Wish you all the best!

nicciw87 · 15/10/2020 12:07

My tests even frer never showed til 4 days before I was due with any of my 4 and my 3rd it was 6 days after ovulated late and didn't realise so there is still hope if it doesn't happen this month u have a rough idea of ovulation so round that date relax have a bottle wine and try that worked with 3 out of 4 of mine

Phiphi123 · 15/10/2020 12:15

It took me 8-9months to conceive, my cycles were very irregular and the ovulation dip sticks from Amazon never showed positive for me. I tried cervical mucus tracking and was pregnant 4 weeks later...give it go. Best of luck x

Keeptrying12 · 15/10/2020 12:47

Thank you everyone! I've never heard of preseed @biscuit13, if I'm not this month ill consider that too. I've just ordered the first response tests as well. I'm trying my best to relax and not thinking about it and I never thought it would be so hard to do haha!!

Oneandabean · 15/10/2020 15:09

The average couple takes 12-18 months to fall pregnant so it can take time. We also used pre-seed and I got pregnant after one use so I’d also recommend.

Lou98 · 15/10/2020 17:46

@Keeptrying12 even though it's easier said than done you're much better waiting until you've missed your period before testing.

Without trying to sound negative, testing early means if you have a chemical you're more likely to know about it and get your hopes up then the heartbreak. They're a lot more common than I realised before I started TTC.

I definitely found the CB 2 hormone OPKs worked best!

Also I fell pregnant after 18 months TTC in March and the only thing I did different that month was take the MyOva Inositol tablets daily and used the conceive plus lube every time we DTD. Unfortunately, this pregnancy ended in MC and I stopped taking the tablets and using the lube. I tried for another 6 months after this and nothing was happening so decided to take the tablets again and use the conceive plus and we fell pregnant again that month and I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant!

It could be coincidence that the months I used both of them are the months I got pregnant but with a total of 2 years TTC I was willing to try anything!

Also easier said than done but try not to worry, it takes an average of 12-18 months for healthy couples without their being any complications. Although if GP is already offering blood tests then no harm in getting them to put your mind at rest.

Fingers crossed for you🤞

@Keeptrying12, I can't help as I try not to test until I'm late, but AF is due on Monday and I'm going mad symptom spotting! I've also been trying for 10 months and we DTD lots during my fertile time last week (helps that we were on holiday) so really hoping this time next week I'll have some good news.

Sending you some baby dust Flowers
