I haven't had periods for over 5 years after coming off the pill (I'm only 21). I've been tested for PCOS but been told I have nothing apart from high testosterone and that I don't ovulate but a week after getting this news in July I got pregnant but recently miscarried.

Obviously I know now that I am able to get pregnant but I'm hoping to try again in the next few months but as I don't have periods I don't know how to track ovulation. What I'm asking is, how would I go about ttc with not having periods and knowing when I ovulate etc. Has anyone been through this?

Hi @Sparks2 I haven't been through this but I have some knowledge as I had periods missing in action for a few months

1 - do you mean that you came off the pill 5 years ago and havebt had a period since or that the 5 years includes the time on the pill?

  1. If it includes that time, what pill?
3) do you have any understanding of why your period is missing eg low bodyweight, intense exercise, v poor calorie/nutrition intake, thyroid disorder etc?

if theres no known reason you need to push for a referral for more testing. It's not at all normal to have no periods and it isnt okay for either your general health or fertility specifically

If you dont have periods, you must have got pregnant literally the only time you have ovulated in the last 5 years. That means that clearly you can get pregnant but also doesnt bode well for conception in general.

I barely ever have a period - I could count them on 2 hands in my whole life and I’m in my 30s. Like you I really struggled to get a diagnosis, and while I was eventually told pcos i don’t have typical symptoms at all. I had to go on clomid to conceive to get me ovulating, but I’m now 30 weeks pregnant. My advice would be: keep pushing for a diagnosis, and after that push for clomid. It will take time, and you may get lucky before a referral, but it is 100% worth knowing what’s going on and getting the help you need rather than struggling alone. You’re still very young, which is in your favour, and I know gps can be dismissive, but it’s so important to make sure you raise your concerns and are heard. Good luck!
