Tummy bug - any advice

I'm Gingernut's DH - she's got a tummy bug at the moment. It's probably the one that I had 2 days ago.
I ended up very dehydrated - and I felt like I had the biggest hangover I've ever had!

Any suggestions? Is this one to go to the doctors/midwife with when pregnant?

can she take any fluids at all? I would try some diarolyte if she can tolerate it.

At the moment she has a big bottle of water to keep going at. My symptoms got worse over time though. We've got some diarolyte so we might try it. It didn't do much for me though - other than nearly make me sick again.

when I had a bug like this in pregnancy they recommended not taking anything to bung it up, just lots of fluids and rest. and only to worry if you can't keep the fluids down.

There's not much the doc gan give her because she's pregnant-(same when she's had the baby if she bfeeds) he may suggest that dialoryte to ensure she doesn't dehydrate. All they'll tell you is to keep her hydrated- plenty of water and if it carries on longer than a few days or she gets dehydrated then go to see gp who may admit her to put her on a drip...

Beat way to take diarolyte is with lots of ice and try the different flavours if neccesary but if she's ok with the water stick with this as long as it doesn't go on too long.Hope she's feeling better soon.

Just out of interest I had a vomity bug for 36 hours when pg .. couldn't even keep fluids down for the first 20 or so hours

everything was fine ... babies are remarkable parasites

hope she feels better soon

I had a tummy bug about 2 weeks ago - mainly diarrhoea but did vomit too. Was concerned for the baby so rang doctor who said just keep drinking loads of water then very simple foods like rice, pasta and potatoes. I'm also seeing a homeopath, rang her and she suggested Arsenicum 30c every hour for about 4-5 hours. I rang her back to report and she recommended taking a further 4 or 5 over the next 6 hours or so. It was brilliant. Absolutely nailed it and the great thing is that it's safe for the baby. There's a homeopathic pharmacy called Helios who are very helpful if you ring and ask for advice: 01892 536393. Good luck.

I was told to keep fluids up if possible, including dioralyte. Sucking ice cubes helps with nausea. If diarrhoea only then you should continue eating bland foods (the old advice of starving is now wrong). I rang GP but only need to be seen if dehydrating or persists more than 2 days. Hope soon feeling better.

Thanks all - I'm feeling much better today so hopefully the worst is over. dh was a star and took a day of work and took ds out for the day (we have the decorators in at the moment as well - doing hall, stairs and landing, so no escape!!!).

ive just recovered from a really bad tummy upset and wa told only to eat very plain foods and to drink lots of lucazade sport(not the fizzy stuff)to stop you getting de-hydrated and it did seem to do the trick although it was really sickly and sweet.i heated it up in the microwave and had it warm which was a bit better,so try that and i'm sure you'll feel a bit better not long after.
