Losing mucus plug at 9.5 weeks?

Hi all, I've name changed for this (in case I end up uploading a picture and then I really wouldn't want to be outed!)

I'm 9.5 weeks pregnant and have already had two early scans due to spotting etc which they said was due to a haematoma. However that has died down over the last week or so and I haven't had any bleeding since. But this afternoon I went to the loo for a #2 and I did have to strain a little bit (sorry TMI but I've been getting a bit of constipation) and afterwards a big clump of yellow jelly came away when I wiped. It is about the size of a pound coin and it's definitely jelly as opposed to discharge, it's like a solid that won't come apart at all. I didn't have any bleeding but I am now getting a lot of lower abdominal pain.

Could this have been my mucus plug and my cervix opening in anticipation of a loss? I'm so worried. I've called my GP to see if I can get referred back into the EPU but they will be closed by now so I don't know when I'll get seen by anyone. Thanks for any advice.

Has the pain gone now OP? Was it just that one bout of it or have you had multiple?

pinkgreenblue · 15/10/2020 10:51

The pain is still here unfortunately, it’s weird it’s not like cramps or period pain it’s like almost a stabbing pain. I haven’t had any more mucous loss or any bleeding though, I’m really not sure what to think.

Just to update, I had the same thing again when I went to the toilet this afternoon. My sickness has completely disappeared, I don’t think that’s a good sign.

The GP did come back and agreed to refer me to the EPU and they called me back and the nurse said she’d never heard of this kind of thing before but agreed it sounded like my mucus plug. She has booked me in for a scan tomorrow morning but I’m just waiting for the bad news really. I’ve got terrible lower back and lower abdominal pain and just don’t feel at all pregnant anymore.

Oh OP Flowers I don’t know about these things so can’t offer any context around the pain. I know morning sickness can suddenly disappear and then it comes back with a vengeance. I will keep absolutely everything crossed for you, I think it’s going to be a long wait for you so make sure you rest up and take it easy this evening.

Just a hand hold OP. I hope everything is ok at the scan tomorrow

pinkgreenblue · 15/10/2020 15:56

Thank you both. I just can’t stop crying, I was so excited xx

Are you at home today? How old is DD? Is she with you? xx

calimommy · 15/10/2020 16:16

Try to be calm OP, you haven't had any bleeding or cramping. Mucus and discharge is also extremely common in pregnancy. Every time I go to the bathroom I have large gobs of it. And symptoms come and go. This is likely completely unrelated to pregnancy. Good luck

pinkgreenblue · 15/10/2020 18:05

@ReeseWitherfork DD is 21 months, she has been at the childminders today fortunately. DH just went to get her, she is making me feel a bit better, she’s so sweet.
Thank you everyone for being so lovely xx

Also I'm
A bit surprised at what the scan place said to you, it's a private scan and you are paying for it it. It's none of their business when you were last seen by someone else and it's not a diagnostic scan.

pinkgreenblue · 15/10/2020 19:50

@calimommy I know I was really surprised as well. I think if I had just gone online and booked it and turned up then they probably wouldn't have turned me away, I would have already paid my deposit for a start. But I decided to ring them because it would have been a same day booking and I don't know why but I sort of said 'I was here a couple of days ago but I've been having some problems and I want to come back for another scan, is that ok' and they asked about what had happened and whether EPU were going to see me. To be honest I think they perhaps thought that if it was anything serious then EPU would see me, and because they wouldn't, that I must be a bit anxious and they didn't want to be seen to be encouraging regular scans.

Fortunately now EPU have agreed to see me so I'm glad I persevered!

Ok I understand the situation. I think, from what you said to them, that they were under the impression that you might be having a loss and because they cannot make diagnosis they would discourage you from attending/refuse to see you.

Hope you’re ok OP. For what it’s worth I had so much strange mucus in my pregnancies, no one ever seemed to talk about that! I also had severe pain at about 7 weeks with my second pregnancy and ended up going to A and E on the advice of 111, they scanned me as they were worried about an ectopic but all was fine- I think the pain was constipation Blush but it was just SO severe at the time I could barely stand. Really hope it’s all fine tomorrow, have everything crossed for you x

ToxicTracey · 15/10/2020 22:40

Fingers crossed for you OP! For what it's worth, I had the yellow mucus in early pregnancy with DD and for a good few weeks in early pregnancy now (currently 31 weeks). I just thought it was a normal thing to have! It was literally like a yellowy jelly. My sickness also randomly stopped completely at about 10.5 weeks. I'd gone from vomiting 3-4x a day to just waking up and feeling completely normal again.

TheFoz · 15/10/2020 22:50

I hope all goes well for you in the morning OP Flowers
