I'd say so , we had 8 bottles.

mamaof2girls · 14/10/2020 10:48

I had 12 each time I was feeding on demand with my 2nd though due to silent reflux so could mean some days a bottle every 2 hours now she's abit older at 5 months she only used 4/5 bottles a day now! X

8 sounds about right. Maybe I’m missing something really obvious but I don’t see the point of the small ones as we DD ended up having to buy more big ones once she was taking bigger feeds. This time I’m just getting the big ones to use from day 1 and will use newborn teats.

I had 5 bottles - you need enough to get through the night and first feed. So even if a baby is having 3 hourly feeds that is 10pm, 1am, 4am and 7am and then you have a spare incase they want another feed.

The last thing you want is to run out of bottles during the night or not have a bottle for the first morning feeds

Oneandabean · 14/10/2020 13:44

@ShyTown they do the small ones as you don’t want excess air in the bottle as it can cause them to swallow more air and get colicky, so you use the smaller size when they’re not eating so much and then get bigger

We had six, which is as many as would fit in the steriliser.

Had my DS 3 weeks ago and rotating between 5 bottles at the moment. I personally would recommend trying a few different brand of bottles before bulk buying a certain brand, my son did not get on with the tommee Tippee and medela bottles, he took to the MAM bottles the best. Every baby is different, so what is good for one is not necessarily the same for another.

My midwife recomends between 8 and 12 as babies need between 8 and 10 feeds a day when they newborn

Does your midwife not recommend making up each feed fresh??
Boringnamechanging · 16/10/2020 13:42

I had 7. That way I had 1 still ready to use and 6 I could clean and put in the steriliser

I'd assume the midwives recommendation is to save the parents from having to wash up and sterilise more than once a day.

anotherboyontheway · 16/10/2020 16:15

Don't over buy!! I bought about 12 tommee tippee bottles for my first baby and he refused to take them and would only take MAM. Also the same with bath products, wipes and nappies ... I stocked up on Johnson's and baby didn't react well to it so was a waste of money ☺️ xx

MamaToBeOMG · 16/10/2020 16:21

AnotherDayAnotherDollar i was told either way is okay what do you recomend

babygroups · 16/10/2020 16:31

@MamaToBeOMG the current advice is to make up each feed freshly.

ScarMatty · 16/10/2020 19:26

Unless I'm reading something different, at no point just @MamaToBeOMG say she isn't making each feed fresh? Very confused.

OP, I think we had between 10-12 as DS fed every 2 hours so I would wash them every night and that would keep us going for the next 24 hours

HOWEVER

DS also refused any brand other than Dr Browns and I wasted fuck loads of money on all the other brands so my advice would be to buy a couple but see whether baby likes them first
