Weight gain

Currently 26 weeks pregnant. I went to get my flu & whooping cough vaccines this morning and the nurse commented that I would have "a lot of weight to lose".
Pre-pregnancy I was 58kg. Currently 65kg. I thought that was pretty normal??

Totally normal weight gain, how rude of the nurse! Honestly don’t even worry about it. We all carry it differently in pregnancy anyway eg I’ve put on loads less weight in this pregnancy than my previous one but my face has got chubby which makes me look bigger overall when I compare photos.

What a horrible nurse! So rude.

oldermama2021 · 13/10/2020 12:36

@bumblebee233....my weight was similar to yours when I got pregnant and I am nearly 23 weeks and have put on a lot more than you...nearly a stone. I have to say I am a bit worried as I think they say that "normal" weight gain is around 2 stone and I am keep thinking I will have more than that on if the past few weeks are anything to go by. I know it is so frustrating when people make comments like that....

Mimiwish · 13/10/2020 12:43

How ridiculous! What a rude and stupid nurse, especially as that really is not a lot at all! I was 62kg before pregnancy and am now in the 70s. My doctor says it's not a problem at all - I even pushed her on it and she said it was perfectly healthy. You're doing a fantastic job if that's all you've put on! Previously in order to maintain my weight I did intermittent fasting and barely ate carbs; yes, my eating habits have changed, but if my doctor isn't worried, I'm not: don't even give it thought. I'd say your weight gain is very mild, actually! :D

mumoftwo200013 · 13/10/2020 16:05

That's really rude of the nurse... I am 19 weeks at the moment and my weight has gone up to 67kgs from 61kgs(almost one stone) when i conceived.

ChickenDipper28 · 13/10/2020 18:05

I put on nearly 4 stone with my pregnancy (size 8 before)
I had my baby a week ago tomorrow, I've lost 2-3 stone already. I wouldn't worry about it! It's completely normal 😊

Caspianberg · 13/10/2020 18:13

I weighed 50kg. Was 70kg the day baby was born. Baby is now 5 months and I’m back to 52kg. So it was obviously needed. Baby was 4kg and I think I lost around 11kg in the first 2 days so over half the weight gain was baby related

elfran · 13/10/2020 18:29

That was my exact pre-pregnancy weight (size 8) and more or less where I am now, and I'm a few weeks behind you! I've been following an online chart for week-by-week gains and feel fine about what I've put on. Think I'd have some sharp words for any nurse who said that to me! Grin Don't let her bother you, OP. Sounds like you're doing great.

bumblebee233 · 14/10/2020 07:21

Thank you all!!
Very reassuring. Will stop panicking 😂

I find this helpful when rationalising my weight gain (currently 36+4 and almost 2st extra)

That nurse sounds like a knob.

20viona · 14/10/2020 09:40

Yes that nurse sounds rude. I gained 15lb during pregnancy.

MaverickDanger · 14/10/2020 10:00

By 26 weeks I’d put on exactly the same amount. I’m now 31 weeks and have put on 10kg.

I’m aiming for no more than 15kg total weight gain but ultimately it is what it is.

UnicornAndSparkles · 14/10/2020 13:31

Wow im amazed she said that! Incredibly insensitive and absolute nonsense. With my first pregnancy I gained around 35lb. Baby was born and by the time she was 2 days old I'd lost 21 lb very naturally; baby, placenta, waters etc. It all adds up.

Charlotte2020 · 15/10/2020 15:27

@bumblebee233 my midwife told me if you have a lower start weight it's healthier to gain a lot more weight. My start was 73kg and at 19wks I've gained 1kg! It's all relative. I'd say if it's general weight gain and not just because you are eating cream cakes all day it's fine!
What a mean nurse!
