Waters broke at 33+4 weeks...

Hi I'm currently sat in hospital as I lost my waters this morning.

The staff here are being brilliant and have said outlook is really good if I was to deliver now at 33+4.

I was wondering if anyone had personal experience of this and what the outcome was?
We've already lost 4 babies (in early pregnancy) so it's quite a worry!

They've given me my first round of steroids and antibiotics and will keep me in for 24 hours

Oh frazzle, if I’m right I remember your first post about this pregnancy!

Not quite as early as you, but my waters broke with DS1 at 36+3 weeks. I didn’t have any steroid injections or anything. I started getting contractions straight away but ended up needing the drip which helps labour along as I just wasn’t progressing as well as they thought I should be.

He’s now 5 and being very cheeky to me as I write this 😂

Try not to worry yourself, you are in the best place right now 💖

Butwhhhyyyyyyy · 12/10/2020 15:22

I had my daughter at 34 +3 by emergency c section and I didn't realise I was in labour, oops, she was 5lb and weeny but very healthy, no scbu, home after 3 days, she is a very healthy 16 yrs old now.

VillageGreenTree · 12/10/2020 15:24

When I was pregnant with twins (twins often come early) I remember the midwives saying, "Just get to 30 weeks. If you get to 30 weeks you have a 90% chance of everything being fine".
At nearly 34 weeks the chance of everything being well is really excellent.

Dollywilde · 12/10/2020 15:26

Frazzle, no experience but we’ve chatted on here before and I was so pleased for this pregnancy for you! Glad to hear you’ve got to now successfully. Fingers crossed all goes well - must be so stressful but glad to hear outcomes are looking good. Will be thinking of you and little Frazzle and excited for when you get to meet each other (but hopefully not toooo soon!) Flowers

I have read that a baby born at 34 weeks will do just as well as a baby born at 40 weeks, they may need to go into intensive care as their lungs are developed properly but they baby should be okay, I don't imagine those 2 days will make a massive difference x

lovescaca · 12/10/2020 15:27

My waters broke at 33.3 weeks @ 5:30am has my ds at 18:06pm that night, only 1 steroid injection as no time for the second steroid. He's was in the hospital for 4 weeks on oxygen, just until his lungs matured a wee bit more. Now he will be 3 in December Smile. X

AriesTheRam · 12/10/2020 15:33

I was born at 32 weeks and I was 4lb..and totally ok :)

addler · 12/10/2020 15:53

Oh @Frazzlerock! What is this warrior baby doing now? It does like to make things difficult doesn't it?

No doubt after everything that's happened in your pregnancy this little one will be as fighty as usual and sail through. Thanks

How are you feeling?

Applesnow22 · 12/10/2020 17:13

Frazzle!

I am sending you love and prayers.

A friend of mine had to be induced at 32 weeks back in September and she now has the most beautiful baby girl who only spent about 3 weeks in the hospital until she matured fully.

If the doctors aren't too concern, I believe you should be fine!

Please keep us updated!

Sirrah · 12/10/2020 17:23

My waters broke at 34 weeks, contractions didn't get going, but the consultant said baby was about 7lb so they put me on a drip and, after 5 hours, my son was born weighing 6lb4oz. Apart from bruising, and a few days in SCBU with jaundice, he was absolutely fine. He's now a strapping 6ft3 31 year old.

Orangesofaandcoffee · 12/10/2020 18:34

My oldest DD was born at 34 wks and had no problems at all, she is however making up for that now at nearly 18 Grin i've been following your other thread and wish you all the best. X

Frazzlerock · 12/10/2020 21:15

Thank you all so much for your kind replies! You've really helped with my worry.

No further action over here, waters still trickling out but no contractions and baby is totally fine. No signs of infection so it's all looking good so far.

Hey @addler yes this one is certainly giving us the runaround!

Hi Frazzlerock, my DD was born at 34+0. She does have mild cerebral palsy but we strongly believe this was due to mismanaged birth rather than prematurity (neurologist said so). In your shoes I would ask for a C section, of course that is very much based on my experience. Best of luck and hope all goes well.

Frazzlerock · 12/10/2020 21:28

@minipie thank you for sharing. I'm actually due to have an ELCS at 39 weeks (before this all kicked off!) so will be deffo be having one if I go into labour early

TheFoz · 12/10/2020 22:34

Thinking of you @Frazzlerock, I hope all goes well and little warrior baby stays put for another while. I’m sure that was some shock for you!

addler · 13/10/2020 17:32

How are you doing today?

Frazzlerock · 13/10/2020 18:09

All good thank you @addler I'm at home now. Back in twice a week for monitoring and first session will be on Friday. They scanned me and saw there is still some water left which is good news! Just a waiting game now. As soon as I got home I had a much needed shower and have started packing my bag!
You should do the same 😁

Pinktruffle · 13/10/2020 18:43

I have no advice @Frazzlerock as I'm an FTM but I remember you from other threads, I think we share a due date. I just wanted to wish you and the little one all the best x

addler · 13/10/2020 18:51

So glad you're home! God I hope this child doesn't give you as much grief growing up as it has in utero Grin Your poor nerves won't stand a chance!

Every successful appointment is a step in the right direction so I hope it continues! Are you on bed rest now? Have you herded DH and the boys up?

Frazzlerock · 14/10/2020 09:07

@addler I'm really hoping this one is getting all his/her naughtiness out of the way now and will be an angelic child.... haha!

I asked the midwife if I should rest and she didn't think it was necessary, just said no running or anything which I haven't done anyway (but miss soooo much!). I guess if labour is going to start there won't be any stopping it now there's not a huge amount of water left.
Although DP has insisted I'm not to do anything!

What a worry for you. Please keep a close eye on your temperature and how you feel in general. Rest up and take care. I’m with your hubby on this one. Flowers

Mylittlepony374 · 14/10/2020 09:15

I had my boy at 34 weeks. Spontaneous labour. No steroids etc- no time as he was out a couple of hours after I felt the first twinge ... He was in ICU for a week as he needed a little help with breathing the first two days, then took a while to establish feeding. Now he is a mischief filled 2 year old hurricane who has me totally wrapped around his little finger. Best of luck x

Frazzlerock · 14/10/2020 09:23

Thanks @Isadora2007 I'm keeping an eye on temp and any signs of infection in my waters. I am on antibiotics so hopefully that will keep any problems at bay. Although the midwife called last night and told me I have thrush after a routine swab test! I had no idea! I thought thrush was mega itchy and pretty obvious and grim, but I've had nothing Hmm. So I've got a call with the GP later to get me a prescription as they said it can transfer to baby's mouth Stealth thrush is all I need at this point!

@Mylittlepony374 That is great to hear. It must have been a worry at first though. I keep seeing lots of positive experiences so I don't feel quite so worried now Smile

Got anything you can binge watch?

I've started The Handmaid's Tale which in hindsight probably isn't a great choice for someone pregnant... Hmm

My friend has twins who were born at 34 weeks, one of them had a 40% growth difference to the other so was in for a while and is now an absolutely fearless feral creature, but the other twin was only in for a couple of days even though she was small as you except 34 week ID twins to be. She's also now a very gentle delicate soul who startles at everything, compared to her sister who was quite poorly but now says her favourite colour is 'blood' Confused

Bowerbird5 · 14/10/2020 09:52

My niece had all her pregnancy’s end early. 1x34 weeks, 2x 32 weeks , 1x28 weeks and 1x 25 weeks all children now running about and healthy. Obviously last four were in SCUBA and last one was in for about 3 months. I was amazed that she had no lasting affects.

Also best friends son had their babiesDS3 full term and DS1 &DS2 at 32 weeks. Very tiny but no problems other than in SCUBA for a little while. All strong healthy boys.

Good luck. I will say a prayer for you.
