Isolating 2 weeks before due date ?

Yesterday at my toddlers footfall class the head coach asked me if my family and I were self isolating the two weeks before I was due . Apparently there is another family who have been asked to do this .

I’m 35 weeks pregnant , with Kingston hospital and this hadn’t been brought up . Has anyone been asked to do this ?

I'm almost 36 weeks and I haven't been asked - different hospital though.

Nope not asked. Possibly before a planned section?
Anyway can’t see how it’s practical for most people!

I asked about this - due twins and will be having a c section. There is no way we can self isolate - DH would have to take 2 weeks annual leave and so would then when paternity is added be would be out of work for 1 month. Also we have a school age child so no way the school is going to allow her to stay home.
Ours have said no strict self isolating but to shield as much as possible which is the best we can do

Is the issue that if your DH/ birth partner is self isolating or has symptoms they won't be allowed in the hospital with you? That is the policy at my hospital.

We are going to be extra careful after 38 weeks as I desperately want my husband there. But not pulling my toddler out of childcare as I don't think it's fair on her. It's going to be a worrying time.

I haven’t been asked to. But I am in a position where I can so probably will, as I desperately want my husband there and also not to be in labour surrounded by midwives in hazmat suits....! All we can all do is our best given our situation though - I am wfh and haven’t got any other kids - it would be much harder otherwise, obviously.

My hospital hasn't asked but I believe they are asking everyone to do a covid test before being admitted if it's for an induction or c section.

I m 38 weeks and just going to my midwife appointments now and DH is working from home and just going out for food, as if I have symptoms or DH does then I won't be allowed to have a birthing partner.

I am a teacher and currently have a couple of students off and isolating for precisely this reason. We are providing work for home learning and we have had no problem at all authorising the leave.

I am sure there might be lots of reasons why you would prefer to keep your older child in school (some normality for them and some peace for you before twins arrive!) but please be assured that if you did need to isolate then it’s part of your school’s remit to support your children with this.

My hospital hasn't asked me to yet either, but its something me and DH have discussed and decided we are going to do.

If he has symptoms I will have to give birth on my own and I hate the idea of that, plus he won't even be able to visit. Im likely to be having a planned section too so will likely be in at least overnight.

We have no other kids and he can largely WFH so easier for us than some others im sure.

@ThanksItHasPockets

Thanks! But DD is 4 and in reception so doubt there would be any home learning packs provided! She told me they watched Pingu in the afternoon the other day 🤷‍♀️🤣

I am going to have an elective c section. Three days before I have to do a Covid test and isolate from then, but my husband and daughter do not have to.

SJC270 · 13/10/2020 19:43

I'm having an elective c-section in Oxford - I've been told to follow social distancing etc strictly for two weeks, then three days before the date, I have a covid swab. After the swab, my entire household needs to self-isolate until the c-section. Perhaps the the instructions differ from Trust to Trust?
