C section during covid - how long in hospital?

Hi all.

I have a planned section in a few weeks. I did have a emergency section with DS but over 10 yrs ago so it is all a bit hazy. I also has a spinal puncture headache from a botched epidural under intense contractions so I was in hospital for a week eventually discharging myself.

How long do they have you in hospital after a c section now? My son has autism and will struggle with me being in hospital and esp as I can't see him being allowed to visit on the ward unless I can get down to the front door to see him.

I am hoping being older and a bit more risky that I won't be last to be taken on the day so hoping to have most of the initial day to get catheter etc out, but what are people's experiences like just now and timescales?

Do you do a birthing plan? No-one has even mentioned one to me and my last visit saw a registrar who didn't know my section had been agreed from the start and tried to talk me out of it. 🙄

Hi I had a c section 11 weeks ago, i was induced due to developing obstetric cholestasis and I didn't dilate past 4 cm so ended up needing a c section. I had my baby just after 4pm and was heading home 24 hours later.
I didn't have any other complications and me and baby were both healthy so could go home.

Experience wise it was fine, my partner was with me throughout the induction, was allowed to stay for the c section and a couple of hours after. Then visited for an hour the next morning before returning to pick us up, my hospital only allowed an hours visit each day post natal from one named person.

Fingers crossed for you a safe and healthy delivery and you can be back home with your son Smile

Hi op, I am having a c section in less than 2 weeks so can’t help with your query about staying in but I have only just been through my birth plan with my midwife last week.

She said they normally go through all the ins and outs at the pre op appointment a couple of days before the section but my anxiety is pretty high right now so we went through it all on Friday. You will probably find you talk about it all when you get closer to your date, if in doubt, just ask your midwife.

I had a planned section 10 weeks ago I went I at 7am Was lucky and first on the list baby was delivered by 9.30. I was up and about late afternoon (Catheter out) and ready for discharge at 10 the next morning. Fortunately my section was very straight forward minimal blood loss, no complications from the spinal and baby was feeding well etc. They certainly want you out as quick as is safe with covid around however I also feel that if I had needed to stay to help with feeding or I wasn’t feeling right I could of but this was my 2nd and I wanted to get home to the biggest! I had a pre op the day before and I saw the anaesthetist and a midwife went through my choices-I wouldn’t say it was a birth plan as such but she just made some notes about if I wanted skin to skin in theatre, dad to cut the cord things like that. My section was such a calm experience I hope you get similar! Where I delivered my partner could be there for the whole time in theatre and recovery and come to the ward for visiting which was about 3 hours in the afternoon. Good luck x

I'm booked for a section this coming Friday. My first was an emergency after waters gone for 32 hours and baby discovered to be breech and even then I was discharged at 26 hours post op. I've spoken to the consultant and requested I be allowed to discharge less than 24 hours this time all being well. I have a plan with things like delayed cord clamping included in it, not to give me oramorph and that I wish to be discharged 24 hours post surgery at the latest all being medically sound. All agreed by consultant too.
