Not getting checked after waters break...

OK, this goes against everything I've been told/read so far but has anyone not gotten checked over at hospital after their waters have broken?

I did with my first, in and back home within an hour of getting checked, but we have a tricky childcare situation (emergency childcare 30 mins away) plus in a lock down area so would like to avoid tooing and froing as much as possible...

I thought, providing your waters were clearly/normal and you were past 37 weeks, that you could wait 24 hours before going in? Could be totally wrong though!

I suggest you phone to let them know so that if you haven't gone into labour within 24 hours a plan can be put in place.

I'd definitely get checked as I thought they wanted to be careful about temperature/infection and to do a trace on the baby.

My waters broke at 35 weeks - no internal exam and it veered between being told I'd have a baby within 24 hours and that I could still be sent home and go to term. In the end, I had the baby 3.5 days later albeit having been discharged and getting ready to leave hospital!

Good luck.

Yeah I think if the waters are clear and the baby is still moving and you are ok then you can give it some time but as Lilliput said it is worth letting them know. After 24 hours of the baby isn’t out they will want to put you on IV antibiotics/induce you I should think...

I went in to get mines checked with 1st as it was leaking not fully gone. But they said if nothing happened they wanted me back in 24 hour to start induction. So I wouldn't wait 24 hours to let them know it went I would phone when they go and tell them the time and then they will probs tell you to come in the next day at that time if nothing has happened. Least that way they are prepared for your arrival and you ain't going over 24 hours witch can cause infection! With my second my contractions started first and they broke my waters as I asked for a epidural but it was to late I was already 9 cm! X

With my first (NHS) nobody was bothered and they said wait 24hrs before coming in. With my second (public hospital in Australia) I went in for a check and was sent home until it had been just over 24hrs since the waters had broken. Both times had to be kickstarted with pitocin, my body was doing sweet FA!

I went in for assessment anyway cause my contractions were getting stronger (although they said nowhere near close enough to be admitted). Waters broke when I walked in and baby was born 50 mins later.
