Everyone has told me to pack snacks in my hospital bag for me and DH. I'll also have to pack food for him as he'll be able to stay in as long as I'm admitted as long as he doesn't leave the room under the hospital's covid guidelines.

Already packing prunes (c-section!) noodle pots, coffee sachets etc. but what snacks did you enjoy after birth?

I’m packing
Flapjacks
Mixed nuts
Dried apricots
Peanut biscuits

Sexnotgender · 10/10/2020 17:51

Nakd bars, candy kittens.

happymummy12345 · 10/10/2020 17:52

None. Food or eating was the last thing on my mind.

peachypetite · 10/10/2020 17:55

This is for after!

peachypetite · 10/10/2020 17:55

Also bearing in mind it’s not like before where you could have visitors whenever you liked bringing you food in.

booandbumpp · 10/10/2020 18:03

I took in cereal bars mainly and then a meal deal for DP. However because I was induced as soon as they broke my waters I was only allowed water anyway due to higher risk of c section so couldn’t eat anyway!

Take snacks that help your bowel movements!!!! Like figs, grapes, etc! After each baby I had the worst constipation.m!!!

Barneythedinosaur · 10/10/2020 21:30

I took loads of chocolate and sweets because that was what I craved my whole pregnancy.

As soon as my child was born I was looking for the cheese and crackers with no interest in the sweet stuff whatsoever Grin

longcoffee · 10/10/2020 21:30

Jelly babies!

Superscientist · 10/10/2020 22:47

Wine gums, twirls, crisps, tinned fruit and cereal bar. For drinks, I had a carton of apple juice and squash.

Definitely remember meals for OH and plan early. My lo came 8 days early and we hadnt prepared my partners food yet and as visiting was 8 till 8 each day (I was in for 3 days) it was a long day to survive in snack foods and the odd bite of my food!

divafever99 · 10/10/2020 22:55

I took cereal bars but didn't eat a thing during both my long labours, just felt so sick. I do however remember being incredibly thirsty, think it was the gas and air. So I would pack more drinks than snacks.

Stargazer87 · 10/10/2020 23:19

Following, I need some inspiration!

YouBringLightInToADarkPlace · 11/10/2020 00:11

Mini cheddars, nairns chocolate oat cakes, lucozade and belvita bars got me through my first hospital stay so I've got the same again this time.
However I do remember having a fabulous jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw after DS1 was born so they will feed you I'm sure...

spookmeout · 11/10/2020 00:27

I made a batch of biscuits and took them with me, I was so glad I did

Ireallymustgotobed · 11/10/2020 00:37

I took loads of snacks as had some long monitoring sessions in the last couple of weeks before I was induced. Spent the first one unable to get any food or anyone to get me any (also mobile phone battery died so no way of contacting anyone, that was fun).

Dried apricots, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, cashews, cereal bars, breadsticks, cheese straws, little packets of cookies, cartons of fruit juice, Nairn’s ginger oat biscuits, bananas (some green so they could ripen for later), chocolate, mini cheddars.

Ummumm · 11/10/2020 01:21

I would pack some jelly sweets and dates mainly for the energy it gives you. I also packed a lucozade sport drink which helped too when I started feeling pretty tired. Anything to give you a little boost after all that hard work will help.

Carrive · 11/10/2020 01:23

Lucozade which I sipped on throughout labours, along with gallons of water.

Skittles because I get real comfort from them for some reason - just had the odd one during first, long labour and think they helped as I was tired, hungry and had a headache.

Cereal bars (fruity and chocolate ones); mixed fruit and nuts; chocolate buttons; apples. All helpful when you are alone and just really want to eat but are not keen on what the hospital is offering or it’s the middle of the night.

MostDisputesDieAndNoOneShoots · 11/10/2020 01:34

The surprise hit of my hospital bag for me and DH was Ritz crackers. With DD2 we brought about seven boxes in with us. Also Lucazade sports because if you end up on postnatal it’s bloody hot and you will get dehydrated, especially if you’re breast feeding too.

MsChatterbox · 11/10/2020 01:54

The thing I appreciated most was pringles. And jaffa cakes.

MsChatterbox · 11/10/2020 01:55

Oh and isotonic drink (but caffeine free!) I took a 6 pack and downed them one after the other pretty much post surgery!

PopsicleHustler · 11/10/2020 06:34

Brilliant post.

Due my 5th in January and packing a huge bag of snacks. For a start, I have long labours so it's a good idea to have some food and snacks as I get so hungry. Also a good idea to have for after too, as hospital food isnt great and I'd like to have snacks in between meals.

Would want to bring the following :

Cereal bars
Chocolate
Oramge and apple juice
Jelly, the ones you can buy in the little pots now are good.
Sandwiches or wraps to start us off in labour as obviously cant keep a sandwich overnight etc from labour ward to post natal ward.
Nuts.

Thank you! These are great. All going well, I'm planning a C-section (so should be nil by mouth before) but as these are twins sand could well come early I've been told to pack for 4 days and enough food for DH as he won't be allowed out of the room.

Have made myself a little shopping list now thanks for all the suggestions

I wouldn’t bank on it. It was in hospital for 24 hours before I was brought a bite to eat - which was a dry white roll. I can’t eat bread as I’m coeliac.

36 hours after being admitted ( and 18 hours after an emergency section ) I was told that if I could find someone to watch my baby was I allowed to go to the next ward and queue up with a tray for lunch. Which was a large plate of shredded lettuce and one slice of cold ham.

You’ll be surprised to know that I went home that afternoon.

WonderMoon · 11/10/2020 15:10

My lovely Ma made me a big snack box of yogurt covered raisens, dates, smarties, grapes, ginger biscuits, crisps, sunflower seeds and 2 bars of dark chocolate which was most welcome. My DH would also bring me in a decaff Latte and a blueberry muffin every morning which was also very welcome! I was in hospital 4 days with my DD.

WonderMoon · 11/10/2020 15:14

Just to add - the hospital food was actually very good where I was! Someone came in every day to ask what I wanted for breakfast, lunch and tea. I had chilli con carne, tuna salad, fish pie, all sorts! Even sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. I can't fault it!
