Is the normal time to feel kicks not 20-22 weeks?

FirefighterMomma · 09/10/2020 21:51

This does seem later with a 3rd but my friend had similar and it was to do with the positioning of the placenta that was kind of "cushioning" the movements x

VEGAS2016 · 09/10/2020 22:16

Im not sure where my placenta is i can check. Shall i call the midwife just incase?

You may not feel movements until 24 weeks, it’s dependent on your body, position of placenta and position of baby.

In my first pregnancy I felt my first movements at 14 weeks which is admittedly very early, but I was a tiny scrap of thing back then which may have been why.

Second pregnancy was much later due to an anterior placenta so whilst baby was wriggling away like a good un the placenta and position of baby meant I just didn’t feel it.

Third pregnancy much like my first I felt things quiet early on about 17 weeks this time but becoming much more noticeable around 20 weeks.

With this being your first pregnancy you quiet possibly have already felt baby moving around but it hasn’t registered as that to you yet. It’s really easy to mistake first movements as wind or digestion etc. Your waiting for a definite kick or a wiggle where as first movements often feel like very tiny flutters or bubbles popping, it’s very delicate and easy to miss.

If you are concerned, ring your midwife for advice.

Ooh sorry Op, I reread your post and realised it’s not your first pregnancy, I am sorry. Even so I wouldn’t be concerned as yet, every pregnancy is different and plactental placements different as well as a different baby. DC2 pregnancy despite not feeling much for a long time due to anterior placenta never stopped wriggling and kicking where as DC1&3 had much more routine quiet time and active times. Each time is different, but I do hope you feel that reassuring kick soon, and indeed if you are worried there is no harm in talking to your midwife.

It's definitely still something I'd also ask my musics about too! You will sound fine it's a completely normal worry and one I think so many would have esp if you have had babies before! ☺️

They'd only get concerned if you haven't felt anything by 24 weeks maybe even 25. I didn't feel anything with my first 2 children until 20 weeks plus, admittedly it was vv early this time with my 3rd (flutters at 14 weeks and full on movements at 15 weeks) but I actually doubted it until my husband felt it too, I wasn't expecting anything until at least 20 weeks. The positioning of your placenta can cushion it as someone else also pointed out so I wouldn't be worried personally. You can't be far off your 20 week scan anyway, I'd just wait for that.
