Honestly...does doing the deed being on labour?

So just that really 😂 I am 40+6 and on Tuesday when I had my sweep I was already 1.5cm dilated so I was really hopeful something would come from the sweep...but here we are 3 days later still preggers 🙈

Does doing the deed really work? Has anyone had any experience of this working?

It does not appeal to me at all due to how uncomfortable I am down there already with all the pressure but if it gets my little one here without the need to be induced next week then I’ll take one for the team! 🙈

Orgasm can if you’re ready anyway - you don’t have to do the whole shebang.

user19990 · 09/10/2020 10:25

An orgasm started my contractions instantly. I was 40+5

ABabyPanda · 09/10/2020 10:33

Didn’t work for me & was the most awkward sex I’ve ever had Blush

Montmartre · 09/10/2020 10:34

Technically, for most people it does...9 months later Grin

Erm, it definitely worked for a 'friend' Wink

Hellothere19999 · 09/10/2020 10:35

It did for me

drowsy · 09/10/2020 10:35

Tried it when I was about a week overdue, didn’t do a thing. Daughter eventually arrived 11 days late.

Hellothere19999 · 09/10/2020 10:36

You have to come tho and relax and be ready.... hence why it won’t have worked for previous “awkward” poster.

WhatWouldPennyDo · 09/10/2020 10:38

I imagine orgasm is helpful, but I thought it was the prostaglandins in semen that were the actual trigger?

Ninkanink · 09/10/2020 10:38

Yes it can but it’s not fool-proof.

Don’t have to have sex if that’s too awkward or uncomfortable at this advanced stage - bring out the vibrator and do it that way!

Manipulation of/sucking of nipples is supposed to work too, I think.

Otherwise a good, long walk and a very hot curry!

Ninkanink · 09/10/2020 10:46

Oh hmmm I dunno, obviously if sperm is the trigger then a vibrator is going to be pretty useless! I thought it was the orgasm itself that can start things off...

Mummyinlove09 · 09/10/2020 10:51

Some of these replies are so funny 😂 right now the long walk and curry sound more appealing! 🙈

haha I tried this when I was the size of a house as was desperate to avoid induction. It didn't work!

It's the sperm that can kick start it apparently. I hope it works for you!

GreyishDays · 09/10/2020 10:59

I tried it, and acupressure and a curry. So who knows what worked. Maybe google the acupressure points (nipples and web of thumb was what I used).

Alychloe · 09/10/2020 11:09

I’m 39 weeks and wondering about this too..my husband keeps saying we need to schedule in our “own” induction haha. My friend said the morning after she had sex her contractions started! So I’ll give it until 40 weeks then give it a go!

Mummyinlove09 · 09/10/2020 13:24

Thanks everyone! Your replies definitely made my day better while I wait for hubby to come home from work 😂

The orgasm from having sex can help as you will have a flood of oxytocin which is needed for labour and birth. The semen is also needed to help soften the cervix and encourage things along. So a bit of everything really, you need to be reasonably ready for going into labour too. Good Luck

This, and also the contractions of the uterus during organs can help to stimulate real contractions, if you're ready for labour anyway.

Good luck and enjoy!

PopsicleHustler · 10/10/2020 04:52

Yes it sure does.

After we did the business, an hour later i walking to the bathroom and the waters went.

Same thing again with another pregnancy. I started having contractions in the middle of the night after

PopsicleHustler · 10/10/2020 04:54

My midwife was recommending sex also as she said sperm helps soften the cervix. With my last baby born 2018, she came round to give me the sweep and found I was already 1cm dilated. She then said also you can have sex with your husband, it will bring on the labour. It actually does.

Ajahd · 10/10/2020 05:08

I tried sex, nipple stimulation, spicy food, scrubbing the kitchen floor, walking, bouncing on the ball and nothing. I did start to get contractions 5 minutes after sex at one point but contractions lasted 12 hours and then disappeared. I was 3cm dilated for at least 5 days. I was induced in the end at 40+4 because of reduced movements. If we were to have another baby, I wouldn't bother with all the old wives tales, it's anything, they just made me sore and uncomfortable.

SusieSusieSoo · 10/10/2020 05:14

What started things for me was holding a 4 week old baby (friend from antenatal class I'd gone to visit). I rested the baby on my bump. My overdue Ds gave the poor baby a right kick as if to say "get off my mummy" and within an hour my contractions had started...!

Somethingsnappy · 10/10/2020 11:45

@SusieSusieSoo....Grin I love it! And also maybe a little touch of oxytocin from holding another baby!

Highheels87 · 10/10/2020 21:37

I’m sure it worked for me as contractions started within hours

IncyWincySpiderOnRepeat · 11/10/2020 09:30

Worked for me too, within an hour I lost my plug and contractions started the following day.

Was logistically “interesting” though!
