Pregnancy vitamins

Can anybody recommend pre-natal vitamins that are easy to stomach when feeling nauseous?

I have fairly bad morning sickness (and all day nausea) and dread taking my vitamins as they make me feel worse. But I know my diet is not great at the moment due to feeling rubbish, so want to take something. I’ve heard chewable ones may be better, but not seen these in the shops?

Thanks for any help!

Following as I tried pregnacare and it put me off ever taking a vitamin again

dinosaur17 · 08/10/2020 21:15

I’ve just got some seven seas ones (they’re in a purple box) I was taking pregnacare and the smell alone was enough to make me gag, never mind the hours of nausea to follow 🤢

It's often iron in them that contributes to nausea. Maybe just try taking separate folic acid and vitamin D supplements? For most pregnant women, this is all that is recommended/needed.

Hi OP,

How about a pregnancy vitamin spray? I haven’t personally tried one because luckily I’ve been okay with tablets/capsules.
I noticed the Mumsnet thread about these sprays, so it might be worth a try: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_product_tests/4037735-Would-you-like-to-test-new-oral-supplement-sprays-from-BetterYou

I hope the sickness and nausea soon subsides.

The seven seas ones are much better than pregnacare - my midwife said they are less acidic

princessbananahammock252 · 08/10/2020 21:23

I take liquid iron (spatone), vitamin d and folic acid separately as I couldn't hack the multivitamins. Made me feel so sick, and I became very constipated due to the iron in them.

bibs124 · 08/10/2020 21:32

The seven seas ones are huge! I'm still trying to find one that doesn't make me gag at the sight of it

scotgal99 · 08/10/2020 22:46

I ended up buying the Pregnacare gummies as my morning sickness made it near on impossible to swallow tablets without gagging!

Roseability18 · 08/10/2020 22:47

Thanks for the suggestions - I’ll maybe give the Seven Seas ones a try.

Haven’t heard of the sprays - has anyone tried them?

I can manage folic acid and vitamin D ok on their own but I just feel guilty that I’m not taking in enough nutrients at the moment as diet mostly consists of salty carbs Blush

I used pregnacare through out my pregnancy and they were okay.

Oneandabean · 08/10/2020 23:03

Make sure you take them with food, they can make you feel nauseous if you don’t

Don't worry, my diet also looks like this, I cant even look at a vegetable. I have been eating cereals which are fortified with vitamins so that makes me feel better about it.

Superdrugs folic acid and vitamin D. Very small tablet, easy to swallow and most importantly it didn't make me feel sick after taking it

DueNumberTwo · 09/10/2020 06:08

I'm fine with pregnacare but they have to be taken on a full stomach

calimommy · 09/10/2020 06:14

Take them just before you go to sleep. That's the only way I don't get sick.

RosieGirl27 · 09/10/2020 07:26

I take pregnacare after dinner in the evenings as they need to be taken on a full stomach

peachypetite · 09/10/2020 07:29

I just took folic acid and vitamin d combined from boots (tiny tablet) pregnacare and seven seas made me heave. Baby will be fine at this stage.

aToadOnTheWhole · 09/10/2020 13:06

Take them just before you go to bed, it made a huge difference for me. I take pregnacare but I've had the Tesco ones before and they were ok.

Poppyismyfavourite · 09/10/2020 14:28

I was on pregnacare but have switched to the tesco own brand - according to the label they have all the same stuff in them, and they were about a quarter of the price!

AegonT · 09/10/2020 15:59

I switched back to Severn Seas TTC as they are tiny - the only things missing seem to be quite as much iron and any ginger. I've got Boots folic acid plus vitamin D when the TTC ones run out.

Roseability18 · 09/10/2020 19:05

@AegonT I had the Seven Seas TTC ones and they were so much easier! Much smaller and easier to tolerate. Interesting idea to try them again.

I currently have the Tesco ones with omega 3 and it’s two large tablets plus a capsule daily. I basically dread taking them from dinner onwards every night! I’ve tried both with dinner and last thing before bed but neither are good...
