Anxious 12 weeks

Hey everyone,

I am pregnant with my first baby and am still very early at 5 weeks. I am finding it quite difficult to relax as I keep getting nervous and thinking something has happened to baby. I keep having horrible dreams about bleeding too.

Still got a while to my first scan. How did you deal with the waiting?

Any advice is welcome.

If you have the money I would definitely recommend having an early reassurance scan privately at around 8 weeks. That helped me massively with both my pregnancies. I am currently 12 weeks pregnant and have my 12 week scan next week. I'm still nervous but not half as much as I would be if I hadn't seen the heartbeat at 8 weeks. It's natural to feel nervous but try not to let it consume you and try and distract yourself as much as you can! Good luck!!

@mumtobemaz I am in exactly the same position, I'm 4.5 weeks currently. I've already booked an early scan at 8 weeks. It wasn't very expensive (£70) so I definetly think it's worth it for piece of mind. Also they have confirmed my husband can come along whereas it's not yet clear if he can come to the nhs 12 week scan. I'm still waiting to hear from the midwife so having this early scan booked in is at least one confirmed date I have to set my mind at ease.
I hope this helps!
We can go mad together for the next few weeks lol

@MumToBeMaz not going to lie it's difficult 🤣. I am 8+2 and it's driving me mad waiting, but it will be worth the wait.

As some other people have said if you can afford it you can get a private scan done, if you Google it there's lots of places like window to the womb who do early scans, but highly recommend going 8 weeks ISH so you can see heartbeat and baby better.

Thanks everyone, I think I'm going to book in an early scan. I found a place in Glasgow that does scans for £45 which is more my budget.

Got my first call with my midwife arranged for Monday too so hopefully she will be able to give me dates to get bloods and an NHS (Lanarkshire) scan done.

Those first 12 weeks drag so much. Definitely worth booking the early scan at around 8 weeks. Once you hit 12 weeks the rest of your pregnancy flies by

Newmother321 · 10/10/2020 16:59

@mumtobemaz £45 is really good! Definetly worth it in that case. When are you booking for? Mine is on 31st, hoping for no spooky surprises!

Echo all the above comments - had an early scan this morning and saw baby and heartbeat and dated me at 7+3 and I feel so much better now - and it was only £45 and husband could come too!

I had bleeding early from 5-14 weeks so lots of worry on and off. However I just told myself I’m pregnant today, and there’s nothing I can do about the outcome so tried to carry on as normal. It seems to go slowly, but once you get past 20 weeks it flies by 😀

MumToBeMaz · 10/10/2020 21:23

@Newmother321 No way! That's when I'm booked in! Going to a clinic in Glasgow called UltraSound Direct. They've had the best price. Hope all goes well for you.

@hereforallthehelp That's so good that your hubby could go. I was a bit worried about that and phoned them to double check before I booked. Delighted we get to share this experience together. What was your scan like? I've heard for early pregnancies they sometimes have to do an internal scan instead of abdominal. Bit nervous about that but I guess I'll have to get used to being poked and prodded for a bit, hahaha.

@hatscats Thank you so much for sharing that. I actually went for a pee tonight and when I wiped it was the tiniest bit pale pink and I freaked out a little. No pain or anything but I'm going to keep an eye on everything.

@MumToBeMaz I was worried about it being internal too but it was abdominal and they had a huge screen so you could see everything - she showed us the yolk sac and the baby and then it’s heartbeat fluttering away. We were in and out quite quickly but they explained this prior because of COVID. We’ve got 3 photos too and you can see baby in all of them! We then told my parents with the scan pictures and they were thrilled! It was a really lovely experience xx

MumToBeMaz · 11/10/2020 09:41

@hereforallthehelp Aw that's amazing! Hopefully, I have the same experience as you. 31st Oct can't come quick enough, hahaha. xx
