Newcastle RVI - Labour restrictions?

I'm really struggling to find any info on what the rvi are allowing in terms of birth partners? Post labour ward visitors? If anyone can give me an idea who has recently gave birth here or due to and has that info? Thanks

@Helenknowsbest this is where I am giving birth too. I know they are quite strict coronavirus.newcastle-hospitals.nhs.uk/patients/services/maternity-services/ this the info I could find, sure I've also read birthing partner is not allowed with you until you are in active labour but can't find where I've read that x

@Stef92 thanks for sending. Really wish it wasn't so strict but there's nothing I can do. X

When are you due? I'm there today for my 20 week scan, so pleased I can bring my husband along despite the local lockdown!

Hi @Helenknowsbest there's a group called maternity voice partnership Newcastle that you can join on Facebook & that has all the details about what you can and can't do.

At the moment partners are allowed in to the 12 and 20 week scans and are allowed to join women once they're in 'established' labour which tends to mean about 4cm dilated.

Partners are allowed to stay for up to 4 hours post delivery or until the woman is moved to the post natal ward.

Partners are now also being given a 1 hour visiting slot for the following days that the woman stays in hospital.

Hope that helps a bit 😊

My friend sits on some kind of committee there. Last I heard the midwife unit had lifted restrictions but not the labour ward. Is there any chance you could change to NSECH? As far as I know they've lifted restrictions

@Stef92 I'm due at the end of March. I'm 16 weeks today. I hope they don't change the rules by the time I reach 20 weeks.

@LatteLover12 thanks I'll have my mam look at the page as I don't have Facebook. Think if it was my first baby I'd be really upset about my husband only allowed to visit for an hour but as this is second time round I guess I'll have to get on with it :/

@grandmasterstitch
Unfortunately this hospital too far for us as I live in Gateshead and not a fan of the QE hospital either.

Thanks all for replying I appreciate it all. What a time to have a baby! X

When you attend in labour your chosen birth partner can come with you and stay until you go to the postnatal ward afterwards. Then it’s 1hr visiting a day. If you give birth on the birthing centre then they can stay 4hrs after you’ve had the baby, or if you are going home fairly quickly after birth they can stay until you and baby are discharged.
If you are getting induced then you initially have to attend alone as you are in a shared bay, but your partner can attend as soon as you are moved to your own room (they don’t have to wait until you’re in established labour).
Partners can attend 12 and 20 week scans, plus fetal medicine scans and appointments.
The information on the RVI website that pp linked to needs updating annoyingly.

My 12 week scan letter dated last week had a big sticker on saying no partners etc at scans. Im going to ring them day before as stuff changes rapidly. I understand that birth oartner can be with u in active labour.
