Rib pain

Hi all, I'm nearly 35 weeks with first baby and suffering from gradually worsening rib pain on my right side. I don't even have a big bump and have only gained 3kg the whole pregnancy but I'm in agony. By the late afternoon, I can't sit in any comfortable position... Also when I go out for a walk I'm getting horrid shooting/stabbing pains 'down there'. Has anyone else had this? I'm getting fed up now :(

Ah lightening crotch 😂 I’m 32 weeks and just started to get this. I’ve had really bad groin and hip pain for about 5 weeks but started to get those shooting pains in the vag now lol. It’s all due to extra pressure on your pelvic region, it’s totally normal. Obviously if you are in agony or really struggling with normal life because of it then see your gp or midwife but other than that it’s nothing of major concern.
I don’t get any rib pain but I was speaking to someone who is the same gestation as me and all of her aches and pains are exclusively in her ribs, so I guess it’s different for everyone (maybe due to baby position).

Yep my rib pain was the worst, couldn’t get comfortable at all and it got worse in the evenings, now baby has dropped and engaged it’s gone completely! Mine was the right side too, she’s still lying on the right now, I think it was legs or head rammed up into my ribs.

Right sided rib pain after 20 weeks can be a sign of preeclampsia, so I'd get your blood pressure checked, but it's most likely just baby pushing on everything and making you uncomfy.

I ended up with incredibly painful right sided rib pain around 34-35 weeks. Do double check it with your midwife as PP have said it can be a sign of pre-eclampsia, but as long as blood pressure, urine are fine and no headaches, swelling etc. it's most likely baby position. I found that if I focused on engaging my abdominal muscles 'drawing baby in' when I moved positions in bed for example, this helped. Also fine to use a wrapped up ice pack or bad of peas on it (DP was horrified 😅). At 37 weeks now, she's dropped and the rib pain is gone 😁 (but the lightning crotch is worse, I'm so sorry, and have no tips on that 😢) x

Thank you all. My blood pressure is actually on the low side so that’s good. Yeah think baby has her bottom and feet rammed into my ribs - so bloody uncomfortable. Was planning on working for another 2 weeks but not sure if i can carry on as just can’t sit comfortably. Glad there’s hope of it improving in a few weeks though lightning crotch getting worse sounds fun...!

Aw bless you. I had exactly the sam strong with my son nearly 2 years ago and it was agony. I found a warm bath helped a little (while I was in it anyway). By 36 weeks his head descended into my pelvis and the pain went away!
