Sweep at 37 weeks?

Hey everyone, I am booked in for a sweep tomorrow (I will be 37 weeks+4days) this is due to me having diabetes and they want me to have my baby early. My induction is booked for 38 weeks+5days if sweep fails. My question is how successful will this sweep be and will it be safe if I go into labour afterwards? It takes 48 hours for labour to start after the sweep so I will be 37weeks+6days.

From what I’ve read the sweep only works if your cervix is ready anyway. I know several people who have had sweeps done (although at full term) but it hasn’t worked on any of them, so be prepared at that early for it not to.

They might try to perform a sweep, but your cervix needs to be favourable. If it's still posterior, firm, undilated, long or any combination thereof, they might be unable to reach your membranes. Tbh, given its early, I would prepare yourself for this probability.

Midwife tried to do a sweep as part of my induction at 37 weeks, but she could barely reach my cervix, never mind get a finger into it. Induction went ok in the end, so it wasn't the end of the world the sweep didn't happen.

Good luck OP. Hope it works for you.
