Not convinced about the whopping cough vaccine

(Don't need people who are going to be rude or negative about the way I'm thinking)
Hi ladies at first I was definitely going to get the whopping cough vaccine but after a lot of research and a lot of asking questions I'm not convinced I asked my midwife if she got it she said No she don't think it's necessary but that's her opinion she said and as a midwife if she don't think it's not necessary then I'm not too convinced I would do anything to protect my baby but my thoughts are telling me other wise btw I'm 26weeks

Why aren't you convinced?

Have you ever experienced whooping cough? It's hideous.

Tempusfudgeit · 07/10/2020 11:00

I got it because I lived in an area with a huge resurgence of whooping cough. You could check statistics in your area. Oh, and watch a video of a child with it struggling to breathe, it might convince you. I'm not an evangelical BTW, I didn't get the flu vaccination because I wasn't convinced by the evidence.

agathadragon · 07/10/2020 11:01

My aunt nearly died of whooping cough at 6 months. The jab itself I barely felt and there were no side effects. What is there not to be convinced about?

Seeline · 07/10/2020 11:01

Why do you think it's not necessary?
What are your concerns?

I couldn't have the vaccination as a baby for medical reasons (back in the 60s). I caught it when pg with my first. It is a horrible disease. And really frightening when you can't catch your breath. See if you can find some video of people with it and then reflect.

What are your concerns with getting it?

Phiphi123 · 07/10/2020 11:03

If you google baby with whooping cough you can see how awful it is. If you explain why you aren’t convinced or why you don’t think it’s necessary people can give their opinions. If you’d do anything to protect your baby why not have the vaccine? Poor advice from your midwife I would say but at the end of the day it’s your choice. Whooping cough was not a preventable risk I was willing to take for my baby

BertiesLanding · 07/10/2020 11:03

My sister nearly died from it as an infant, and a colleague of mine's life was changed irreparably with a bout of it that has impacted them for years.

Trousersareoverrated · 07/10/2020 11:06

What are the negatives from your research?

CaraDuneRedux · 07/10/2020 11:06

Am I the only one going Hmm at the thought of a midwife saying this?

Either the OP misunderstood what the midwife actually said, or the OP is making things up.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/10/2020 11:07

What reason did your midwife give?

@Megan2018 for you to say that that's very inconsiderate of you everyone can have their opinions that's the reason I'm on here to see other people's opinion ... I heard a lot of stuff saying that when some ladies had it there babies had reduced movements and they had to go hospital and stuff as a parent I know having the vaccine is good but I'm scared of the after effects

OP posts:
InglouriousBasterd · 07/10/2020 11:08

I caught it as a toddler and my first memory is trying to catch my breath to cry for my mummy, I can still feel the fear. If that doesn’t convince you, nothing will tbh.

MsSquiz · 07/10/2020 11:08

If you are considering not having the injection, please search "babies with whooping cough"

Why anyone would not have the injection and risk your child becoming poorly is beyond me.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/10/2020 11:08

My youngest was born in 2013, so I was pregnant during the 2012 epidemic of whooping cough.a number of babies died of whooping cough that year. Numbers have dropped since then, due to the vaccination of pregnant mothers.

Many deadly diseases are rare now due to vaccination. Doesn't mean we don't need vaccination anymore.

Shmithecat2 · 07/10/2020 11:09

Can you link to the research you read? Should be a laugh, at least. I'd also be asking for a new midwife, as yours sounds utterly irresponsible.

AlwaysBelieve19 · 07/10/2020 11:10

@CaraDuneRedux me and my midwife share the same background and we have gotten kind of close if you don't want to believe me then that's on you I'm not a low life to be making up fake post for trouble tbh I don't even know why I started this post just forget it thanks for all your replies

Scared of the after effects, but not scared of the risk of your baby having whooping cough?

Exactly this!

So many people are oblivious to the fact that it is because of these vaccinations that the illnesses aren't as common!

Shmithecat2 · 07/10/2020 11:12

Warning - distressing video.

OP - you want to chance , along with everything else that your newborn will be vulnerable to?

Turtleturtle81 · 07/10/2020 11:12

Your midwife needs to be reported for misconduct.
What makes you think your research is more comprehensive that the scientists that developed the vaccine?

IndieRo · 07/10/2020 11:13

@Megan2018, totally agree with you.

AlwaysBelieve19 · 07/10/2020 11:14
