Big baby, polyhydramnios, normal bump?

I had a private scan today at 35+5 (just wanted DH to see the baby as he had to miss other scans due to Covid).

My fundal height last week was bang on at 35cm at 35 weeks. But baby today was measuring at the very top end of normal (estimated weight 3.5kg at 35.5 weeks), with an off the scale head, and I had some excess amniotic fluid (borderline polyhydramnios). I’ve phoned my midwife and now being referred for a test for gestational diabetes. I don’t have any risk factors - no family history, BMI was 21 pre pregnancy and I haven’t gained excess weight, first baby was average weight (though with a big head). I’m petrified now that I have GD and didn’t know and it’s too late to do anything about it.

Has anyone had a similar scenario? Was early induction/c section recommended? I was hoping for a natural birth in the MLU.

My last baby was a big baby (I have no idea what in kg, but he was 10lbs at birth) no one flagged anything up wile I was pregnant with him, bit I'm now pregnant with my third and they want me to have a diabetes test at some point apparently (not that anyone has contacted me about that again, and no one said a thing at my last scan) I wouldn't worry. Go for the test and deal with whatever lies ahead then. No point worrying before that.

I’ve been measuring big throughout, baby is 50th percentile for head, 80th for femur and tummy. Told I had high fluid of 22cm at 36 week scan to check placenta. Induction on due date mentioned but not seen my midwife yet, seeing her this week.
Gestational diabetes negative and bloods/urine have been fine throughout.
Really hoping for the midwife led unit too, they’ve booked another scan the day before I am due. Interested to see what happened for others too.

Thanks for the replies so far. Bumping for more responses! Has anyone had growth scans that have been way off? The sonographer said it was hard to measure properly because her head was very low down, so clinging to that a bit!

I would love to know of other people's experiences of this! I had a growth scan today and my fluid levels are too high! I don't meet with the consultant for two weeks when I get another scan but I've no idea what to expect for
birth...will I get induced early? I think I'll most likely have a list of 101 questions for the consultant by the time my appointment is due! 🙈

Im being scanned tomorrow at 32 weeks to check for polyhydramnios, i was diagnosed with it in my last pregnancy. Tested for GD twice last time, all fine. He was big, 10lb 6oz and i was induced 5 days past due date. Gas and air VD, needed a couple of stitches mostly due to how fast he arrived. Hes now 6 so this was a while ago. This time at 28 weeks fluid was normal, baby on 50th percentile and GD test normal. Will let you know if that changes tomorrow!

I measured big in my third pregnancy - maybe around 29 weeks. They scared me by suggesting polyhydramnios, and then sent me for a GD test, where I tested positive (but barely!). The rest of the pregnancy was closely monitored and I kept my blood sugar under control with diet, but they kept saying how big my baby was. He turned out to be 7lbs 6oz and the smallest of all three. Hope you have a similar outcome; try not to worry xx
