Hi I’ve just had a baby 12 weeks ago and I have been breastfeeding and bottle feeding my baby. Milk supply not that great 🤦🏼‍♀️ Anyways I had sex about 3 weeks after having the baby and i still haven’t had my period I did spot for one day last week that was all. I had a c section and didn’t really bleed after it either (unusual for me) I did do a test and it was negative that was before I spotted. I do feel sick, hungry all the time & cramps But no period? Please tell me this is normal while breastfeeding as I’m new to bf

If you’re exclusively breastfeeding then it can delay your periods returning. You’re super fertile after giving birth though so unless it was protected sex then there will always be the possibility of you getting pregnant though

Probably best to do another test and see

I didn’t get a period for 3 months after my daughter, if you’re breastfeeding it can be longer.

peachypetite · 05/10/2020 08:39

What contraception are you using?

Boomclaps · 05/10/2020 08:41

I think you probably need to call the GP or GUM clinic, but for what it’s worth, I’m 9w PP and I haven’t had sex, and feel that way

My period didn't return for 9 months after giving birth. I also breastfed

TitsOutForHarambe · 05/10/2020 10:49

My period took 6 months to properly come back after birth, apart from a few episodes of spotting, and I was exclusively breastfeeding.

Do another pregnancy test though because as others have said you are fertile straight after you've had the baby so it's entirely possible that you conceived when you had sex 3 weeks after birth.

Foggymist · 05/10/2020 11:06

Did you use contraception? Breastfeeding is only a form of contraception in the early months when exclusively breastfeeding on demand, no formula or expressing, with baby feeding frequently overnight, even using a dummy can interfere with it, it's not a reliable form of contraception at all. So as you're combi feeding and having sex yes it's very possible.

FourPlasticRings · 05/10/2020 11:11

Since you're combi-feeding, the breastfeeding won't offer you any protection from pregnancy, but may delay your period returning.

I didn't have any periods between giving birth to my daughter and conceiving my second DC 18 months later- I continued to breastfeed throughout that time. It's considered a benefit of breastfeeding for those that get a break from periods.

If you had sex less than 3 weeks you will be covered by giving birth. It takes 2-3 weeks for you to become fertile. I have just restarted contraception and the instructions said if you are less than 3 weeks pp I will be covered from day 1 of taking the pill and for longer than 3 weeks I need to take it for 7 days for protection

After that ebf offers some protection but not full protection, I think I read somewhere it is about 95% reliable but I could be making that up. As you aren't exclusively breastfeeding that reliability would be lower.

Hi all so I spotted again on the 10th is this normal for breastfeeding moms?
