Hi all,
This is my first pregnancy and I'm currently 6+5. I've had really bad nausea since 4-5weeks every day. Since the weekend, this is now also accompanied by really bad sickness where I'm throwing up straight away when I've eaten. Yesterday I managed to keep some soup down and a bit of fruit but nothing else.
This morning, not able to keep any breakfast down again and the thought of any food is making me feel sick.
I'm exhausted and have no energy. I'm even waking up during the night heaving and feeling really sick running to the bathroom.
Just really looking for some advice on whether this is normal please and any tips as really struggling? X

You can try dry bland food/ginger but honestly, I'd speak to your midwife/GP for some anti sickness drugs.

Congrats on your pregnancy.

I’d try acupuncture.

There have been threads on MN about this before so you should be able to have a google. The results are good. Costs about £50 a session though but I’d be having it if I could possibly afford it as feeling sick all the time is rotten.

My GP prescribed metoclopromide which helped a bit. To be honest, not much helped me - I just had to wait for it to pass. Eating small meals regularly eased the nausea a bit, as did resting. Acupressure bands helped, but that may have just been placebo.

Some people swear by preggie pops. I've also been recommended ginger, sparkling water, and lemon. None of those made a difference to my nausea though!

Don't worry, it's totally normal. Just remember that sickness and pregnancy in general is entirely different experience for every woman, and even your own two pregnancies can be totally different.

I was very sick really early like you - so sick I had to stop working at just 5 weeks and never worked again during pregnancy! It was horrendous and having that massive financial blow on top of physical sickness did no good for my mental health. My sickness didn't end until approx. 34 weeks Confused

I know it's not comforting, but for some sickness can last all 9 months, all day long. The only thing you can really do is persevere in experimenting to see what works best for you. I.e. I couldn't see ginger, let alone drink it or eat something with it, even though it's a no.1 remedy for everyone. It just wasn't working for me, pregnancy sickness is individual like that. What personally helped me the most was acupressure bands (often used for travel sickness). They're a few quid on Amazon, so you can try without losing much in case they don't work for you. Rest, eat small meals of whatever you can handle that day, and take care of your mental health because physical sickness can really affect you psychologically. Pay attention to food and activities that seen to aggravate your sickness. In my case, I know it sounds absolutely mental, but things were slightly better when I stop drinking tea! For some reason any tea (black, herbal, anything) caused terrible sickness. It was just something about hot flavoured water that totally disagreed with me.

Take care x

Also, one important thing that many forget - prenatal vitamins can make your sickness skyrocket! If you suspect that's the case, try different brands and see if there's any improvement.

In my case it didn't really matter what brand it was, in fact Pregnacare agreed with me the most even though it's the one that most women complain about, it was the timing. Taking vitamins in the morning aggravated the sickness all day long, so I started taking them just before bed and consequently I felt fine early in the morning and only developed sickness later in the day.

Thanks for the advice all! Just a quick update that I've been prescribed anti-sickness tablets and if it continues, my midwife will bring me into the hospital for further checks.

I've been on a higher dose of folic acid due to being epileptic for a few months now so think it's just this bean playing havoc with my tummy lol!
