Unsuccessful S+S ... successful induction?

I’ve had a S&S this morning - well an attempt and she was unable to, I’m getting scared my induction will fail...it’s on Thursday and they are going to have another go at s&s on Tuesday. Baby is also back to back which is another worrying thing for me at the moment.
I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience of this?

How pregnant are you? Lots can change between now and Thursday. And you can decline an induction if you don’t think the baby is ready.

I had several unsuccessful S&S, before an induction at 40+10. Induction worked really well, and actual labour was only about 5 hours long, so in my experience at least, it didn't mean anything. I hope all goes well for you!

@theresaplaceforus I had two sweeps, neither worked. I was induced at 40+3, I went into labour within 24 hours and baby was born at 40+4. Baby was back to back, but they didn't realise to the last minute.

The problem is I don’t think baby is ready I’m only 38+4 and the induction is for a medical reason - hypertension in pregnancy. I’ve already decline one that was offered at
37 weeks and have accepted this one as my BP has been high and I’m medicated for it,
I’ll be just past 39 weeks when I go in.

Thank you @Rollingdragon really hoping it works as well and as fast as that!

That does seem early, even if for hypertension... Would they go for a section?

theresaplaceforus · 04/10/2020 12:23

@022828MAN I’m not sure, the consultant has just said that I shouldn’t go overdue and should be induced between 39-40 weeks like I said before I was originally offered it at 37 and I’ve managed to hold off another 2 weeks. I’m not sure about a section as I really don’t want one but I’m aware it could all end up that way anyway so just a bit concerned at the moment but I have a couple of days for things to change I suppose.

By "unsuccessful" do you mean that it didn't get labour going, or that the cervix wasn't open at all? If the later then personally I would discuss the pros and cons of induction vs section with your consultant.

Masssivefuckup · 04/10/2020 12:27

You could also ask what your Bishop score is - that gives an indication of how likely an induction is to be successful (although it is quite subjective)

theresaplaceforus · 04/10/2020 12:27

@Masssivefuckup I mean that she wasn’t actually able to do it, I think cervix is open a little bit and it says on notes that it’s soft not sure if that’s good or bad.
The thought of a section and surgery and recovery from it is really putting me off but then I know a failed induction could go that way anyway....

Soft is good Smile. It also matters how this it is, and how engaged baby's head is. I'd have s Frank discussion with the consultant about how likely the induction is to be successful and consider your options.

Fwiw - I was only 1cm dilated (bishop score 6) and mine went super quick, although that was at 41 weeks.

Dyra · 04/10/2020 14:28

Soft is good. That's a point or two on the Bishop score in your favour. As a PP said, there's still time for things to change between now and Thursday.

If it helps, I was induced at 37 weeks (pre-eclampsia) with a starting Bishop score of 0. Midwife tried a sweep before each of the pessary insertions, but it wasn't going to happen. Despite that, induction (with the drip) was successful. No C-section, no forceps, and only minor tearing.

It's not guaranteed an induction will fail,or you will need interventions with an initial low Bishop score. But it's still good to be aware of your options and decide on a course of action that is right for you.

Good luck for Thursday. ❤️

@Dyra thank you so much for sharing that - it gives me hope! X
