Accidentally drank out of date milk

Hi everyone,

I’m 5 weeks pregnant. I was eating my cereal this morning when I realised it tasted funny. Only had maybe 2/3 spoonfuls. It turns out the milk was one day out of date and I’m now panicking! Does anyone have any advice?

You have absolutely nothing to worry about.

You will be fine. Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile

Thank you both for replying! I’m really anxious about everything...can’t stop worrying.

I would not panic OP. I have done it many times before. I am sure you will be fine.

You'll be fine - I managed a bout of proper food poisoning during early pregnancy, and while I felt rubbish, it didn't affect DD at all.

It's pasteurised. Think of it as incredibly fresh soft cheese! Grin. Seriously, it is very unlikely to have harmed you or your baby. Unpasteurised milk is what you have to be careful about.

Likewise! Dodgy ham sandwich from a cafe which left me heaving my guts up an hour later. DS was right as rain.

Milk that's gone off just tastes nasty, in any case - I don't think it actually gives you food poisoning.

It’s normal to worry about things (welcome to a lifetime of parental guilt Grin), especially early on when you haven’t got the reassurance of a bump and can’t yet feel the movements. It’s all a bit unreal and at 5 weeks, it’s probably still very ‘new’ news for you. Your worries should settle a bit once you’ve had a chance to get your head around the pregnancy a bit. Even the most planned and wanted pregnancies can take a bit of adjusting to in the early weeks. If you find you are still very anxious about things by the time your booking appointment comes along, do have a chat with your midwife about your feelings Smile.

Refrigerated milk one day over the best before date is safe to drink and will have no ill effects on you or your baby, so you can carry on as normal in that respect.
